My verdict: 💩.
The project will be co-written by Eric Siegel and Anthony Leondis, with the latter directing the feature. Leondis pitched the project around to studios, with storyboards for how the movie would play out.
I was going to ask how dead inside these two must be but the fact that this was his original idea is terrifying.
The hell?
What isn't getting a fucking movie these days holy shit
:glare:
This seems like a terrible idea. Can they not think of anything better??
I fucking hate emojis. I wish there was some browser extension or something to hide them. Although that wouldn't do much good because I mostly just see them on twitter anyway and I don't use web twitter. Fuck the crying/laughing faces, fuck that red 100, fuck that hand sign, fuck "smh", fuck "fam", fuck "tbh", fuck "da squad", fuck those people on twitter who think a good reaction to something is a bunch of the same emojis spammed across 3 lines of text, fuck all of that shit. And now they're celebrating it? I'm bitter as fuck. [editline]21st July 2015[/editline] What next? A movie about reaction images and greentexting? We already have had a couple about hashtags IIRC.
I wonder if the advertising for this movie will involve heavily compressed jpegs of emojis plastered over screenshots of 90's cartoons.
Yet my screenplay never got to be a movie. A real shame.
Why hasn't there been a movie made about all the dankest memes?

Sony should stop making movies. Seriously, all they do is produce shit on top of more shit.
I think the movie's main character should be Facepunch's own greatest emoji, :hoff:
I'm honestly wondering how they're even going to make a plot for the movie. Especially considering it's Sony Animation. I can only see towns burning from this.

Am I the only one who's really curious to see what the end result will be? I mean yes its a stupid idea for a movie, but I think it's so stupid that it ends up being rather intriguing.
When did people stop calling them "emoticons"? And why do I suddenly feel so old?
There is a bit of a difference. Largely that emoji were something very specific to Japan for fucking donkeys years that only came over to the west when Apple left the Japanese emoji keyboard in iOS for other countries. Unlike emoticons they are actually part of the Unicode text specification, they have more semantic meaning and are generally supported by any device from the last few years if it's up to date. They're essentially a language of their own. They just look like emoticons on the surface because they are near enough the same thing outside of a few cultural differences for their existence.
