The pilgrims were colonists, not immigrants, who settled in an area which the English had already been surveying and colonizing for years. 2. The Wampanog Indians were not helping them out of the kindness of their hearts. They had been just prior attacked and brutally ravaged by the Mi'kmaqs and were having to deal with the Pequot peoples encroaching on their territory. They saw the Europeans first and foremost as a means to destroying these enemies of theirs, and had little interest or reason to help them beyond gaining their trust enough to make an alliance for their own defense. Apologies for rambling; it just really irks me when people claim this stuff, and they're doing it quite frequently these days.
