The U.S. Geological Survey reported a quake of magnitude 2.9 hit about 1-1/4 miles west of Lake in the Hills at 6:08 p.m. USGS data show that if confirmed, it would be the biggest seismic event in the Chicago area since one near a McCook quarry on Nov. 4, 2013, measuring 3.2. Before that, the largest in recent years was Feb. 10, 2010, when a 3.8 quake hit near Elgin. "If you felt a loud bang or rumbling you may have experienced a local earthquake," Huntley police reported in a message emailed to local residents. Huntley police have "received calls about a 'bang' but no incidents of damage have been reported." An employee of the Lake in the Hills Police Department said some calls came in from concerned area residents. “But no reports of any damage,” he said.
http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/chi-lake-in-the-hills-earthquake-20150325-story.html

wow 2.9 so spooky
Low-scale earthquakes happen so often where I am, I don't think I could even tell that they happened.
Yeah you pretty much can't notice anything less than a 4.0
Might've been me, I was taking a shit around that area. Sorry guys
Every time we have an earthquake around here, I never feel it or anything. It makes me sad because they're so infrequent.
-Snip I didn't read the article- I didn't feel the quake because it didn't happen near McKinley, it was in another part of the city :v:
The train near my house shakes my house more.
The train near my house shakes my house more.
So much this. Its either shaking my apartment or some dumbass is on the train tracks so the conductor is stiff arming the horn at 3 in the morning.

I think somebody just bumped the table on which the geological equipment was set up.
The earthquakes out here in Chicago are nothing. It's the tornadoes that will kill you.
The earthquakes out here in Chicago are nothing. It's the tornadoes that will kill you.
are tornadoes a little too windy for your city
are tornadoes a little too windy for your city
Yes.
Who else here is from Chicago?
Who else here is from Chicago?
not me :)
Reminds me of that gnarly earthquake the east coast had back in 2011.
Just called my older brother about it since he's currently in Chicago. Glad he's ok.
Just called my older brother about it since he's currently in Chicago. Glad he's ok.
he's ok.
A good portion of the East Coast got caught in a magnitude 4ish earthquake a year or two back and it was just strange but not really concerning at all.

It's good to live in a region where there are no tornadoes, earthquakes, tsunamis nor volcanoes. All we get here is the occasional flooding :v:
The earthquakes out here in Chicago are nothing. It's the tornadoes that will kill you.
Last I checked Chicago didn't get any Tornados. Just basement flooding rain and icy blizzards.
Even though our earthquakes aren't bad, we still have some stuff to worry about. A few years back, we had really bad flooding, access to half the town was blocked. A few years earlier than that, a pretty bad tornado rolled through and ruined the south side of town. And to top it all off, my house is right on top of an old coal mine, so I could literally just fall into the earth at any moment.
Last I checked Chicago didn't get any Tornados. Just basement flooding rain and icy blizzards.
We're near the edge of Tornado Alley. Remember when a bunch of IL towns got hit about a year and a half ago? Chicago itself may not have been affected, but it's a very small portion of geography compared to the rest of the state.
Reminds me of that gnarly earthquake the east coast had back in 2011.
we will rebuild
In the Netherlands they're drilling for gas or something in Groningen and expierienced 2,3 :v:
Don't forget an invasion every now and then. :v:
It's so common here, we've gotten used to it. Kinda like people in Africa are used to heat :v:
If there was a movie of an earthquake in Chicago you know there would be a guy with a one liner "my deep dish pizza!"
