• Microsoft releases GIF-Jiggler (The Future of GIF Looping)

The tool was mentioned for the first time here.
Microsoft says the software uses a technique called "Automated video looping with progressive dynamism". That translates into analysis of a video to isolate the many moving elements it contains. That analysis includes detection of regions that are moving quickly or slowly. Once the analysis has been done, optimisation re-assembles those elements so that they move in a way Microsoft says results in a more natural five-second clip.
The source: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2013/11/25/microsoft_automated_video_looping_with_progressive_dynamism/ Download page: http://research.microsoft.com/en-us/downloads/d02f3198-7896-45eb-89e8-5a75859b67c8/ Note: The article also mentions that some folks had trouble running the software on windows xp / 8.
but it doesnt actually produce a .gif file does it?
but it doesnt actually produce a .gif file does it?
It produces a .jif
its literally magical
So does this mean we can view .gif files with the photo viewer on Windows 8, or is Microsoft just going to leave us fucked over on that one?
You could in XP, why remove that shit?
AFAIK they have never said why, but some suspect it's a licencing issue. [editline]27th November 2013[/editline]
I just use Google Chrome to view gifs, works really well.
I'd imagine most people use their browser to view gifs, but it'd be a lot more convenient if the image viewer could do it as well.
I think there's a program out there that makes Photo Viewer support .gifs again, but whenever I tried it, nothing happened. Anyone else know a way to make them work on Windows 8's Photo Viewer?
Is it me, or does "Gif Jiggler" sounds like something Wonka would make?

The one patent on GIF that mattered has expired.
Licensing for what? The one patent on GIF that mattered has expired.
They probably removed gif support for the same reason they removed the confirmation dialog on shutdown. BECAUSE THEY CAN
that voice sounds like maxof2sd [editline]27th November 2013[/editline] it wont load it says i need MSVCP110.dll now MSVCR110.dll i download all of DLL but it says it can't be run correctly (0xc000007b)
Infraview can view gifs but it doesnt do it properly sometimes its slow and sometimes its too fast or it lags out, just wish there was a photo editor as simple as Windows photo viewer that played gifs
I can't run it, i'm using Windows 7 [editline]27th November 2013[/editline] VideoLoopView opens but it doesn't show anything, what the fuck?
commence the jiggling
It produces a .jif
You know what this means? People can no longer use the "jif" pronunciation for gif because no one will know to which file extension they're referring to! GENIUS! "Gif" pronunciation wins!

Downloading only those .dlls may have tricked the program into thinking this infrastructure exists, but since it isn't actually there, it can't function.
just wish there was a photo editor as simple as Windows photo viewer that played gifs
I've used honeyview for the longest time, and it works great. Really fast and supports everything from gifs to comic books and zipped files, and with no unnecessary fluff.
That's actually really cool.
I found a method that actually works the way the old XP gif viewing worked; right inside the built-in picture viewer for Windows! It's literally as easy as running an .exe to install, and again to uninstall if you don't want it. I put together a very simple readme as well: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/40826004/GIF Support Windows 7.zip All props to this guy: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B3H6-TZ2sGreNlEwRHRLOTgtcUk/edit (Open source too, so you can check the code if you don't trust it)
I just use irfran view for image viewing now, handles EVERYTHING, even MP3s and video

creator won't run for me but viewer does the flags demo bit is really nice, you have no idea how much I hate when people try looping gifs with weird fading or blending so this is like an end-all solution (if it works)
I just use irfran view for image viewing now, handles EVERYTHING, even MP3s and video
Irfanview has always ran gifs painfully slow for me.
Does it work for Windows 8?
No clue; I've only tried it on 7. If it doesn't work, you could always just delete the folder it creates.
