Hey everyone, this is my first post on facepunch, but anyway, I was wondering what you guys use to create your drawings on your pc, i recently purchased a Wacom Bamboo CTH-470 and I've been using Adobe Illustrator to create colourless little sketches, but I was wondering what is the most widely used program in order to draw anime and other things?
Thanks in advance.
use photoshop

I tried that but I can't figure out how to set up my brushes to be sensitive to pressure like I did on Illustrator.

"Transfer" section on that same panel if you want to set up Opacity/Flow pressure control.
And then there's http://www.systemax.jp/en/sai/
Windows Paint Unprofessional for Mac
SAI doesn't get updated anymore but it's still pretty intuitive for beginner-advanced digi painting.
Adobe fireworks doesn't get updated anymore but it's kinda more focus on PNG over JPEG if that interests the web developer or digital artist in you
Paint tool SAI, it's not a complete clusterfuck of options like photoshop.

I don't really see how file format is a big deal (as all image software worth using can export in all the major formats), or how a piece of software can focus on it tbh.

If you want a free one, I use Krita. It's got a really convenient radial menu which comes up on right mouse (or the side button on the pen). The brush configuration is extensive, you can make your own based on shapes or textures, set default opacity, size, what is pressure dependent etc. You can pan and rotate the canvas easily, set up a saturation layer for value checking, configure the interface however you like, toggle mirror with a single key - m (so you can see your image flipped horizontally for perspective etc. and paint on it flipped). If you have an eraser on your tablet pen, it remembers what brushes were used by which end of the pen as well which is handy.
I would definitely recommend it over GIMP as that's clunky as shit to paint with. I prefer it over ArtRage because I feel like I'm actually digitally painting with Krita and not emulating physical painting.
For free it's definitely worth a go.
I'm not an expert in drawing (I suck) and never really use other programs, but if I make a quick sketch I always use Adobe Flash.
Both Sai and Photoshop are pretty good. I used to prefer Sai due to its realistic colour mixing, but Photoshop does that now too. Photoshop also has far more options for making large sweeping changes to colour, contrast, etc, which makes it easier to do things quickly; essential if you're doing concept art or design.
if you don't understand photoshop, or Flash (adobe eeeeww) use Paint.NET.
it's like a professional MS Paint
edit: didn't read the post
Flash for animations.
Oddly enough, if you need help, Oney (man of Leo and Satan, along with wingardium leviosa) has a few basic tutorials for Flash drawing and mouth movements and what not.
I've used both photoshop and sai but like to use both together to produce amazing results. Their is also Krita which is a nice combination of both and is free http://krita.org/
Photoshop has a monthly cost now which is the reason why I won't buy it.

You serious? It already costs small fortune to purchase it and now they even slapped month cost on it? Fuck that, this summer I am purchasing SAI.

They replaced the small fortune with the monthly cost, so it's actually much cheaper now
Can you ever buy it off?
I actually got Creative Suite 5.5 discounted to $250 (still pricey) since I bought it as a student. I doubt retail stores still carry non-subscription boxes of CS/photoshop though so I'd suggest looking into online retailers for => 6 versions: https://www.google.com/search?q=cs5+student&oq=cs5+student&aqs=chrome..69i57j0l5.3881j0j7&sourceid=chrome&espv=210&es_sm=122&ie=UTF-8#q=cs5+student&tbm=shop
Manga studio is something to try at least for its interesting brush choices.
Adobe Photoshop CC
Also why are people saying Photoshop needs a monthly cost and stuff, i downloaded it off Creative Cloud for free and there wasn't a "free license for 30 days" bullshit and stuff.

Don't buy Manga Studio, it doesn't get updated anymore because the company that licensed the software and sold it as Manga Studio doesn't anymore, except for physical copies. It's now sold directly by the original developer as CLIP Studio Paint, and it's cheaper now too
I personally use a Bamboo tablet with MyPaint & it's an amazing combo.
SAI is pretty easy to master and blend in, which is harder to do in Photoshop. But if you master Photoshop you can do so much more with it than you can with SAI. Personally I prefer Photoshop.
I have also heard good things about Corel Painter but I haven't tried it out myself.

Thanks for sharing this, this looks like it's worth trying out as a free alternative to Photoshop

gimp has an awful interface
seriously even dark souls is easier to wrap your head around than gimp, and much more rewarding
if u want a free paint thing then there are much better options than gimp, like krita or mypaint

Should I get a medal for using it for five years now then?
