Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Canada’s prime minister-designate Justin Trudeau agreed to promote the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), both seeing the free-trade deal as beneficial to the region, Japan’s foreign ministry said in a statement. The two leaders exchanged views on the pact during a 15-minute telephone call on Friday, Japan’s foreign ministry said.
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/international-business/abe-and-trudeau-agree-to-promote-trans-pacific-partnership/article27058428/ Well done, Canada.
"Real Change" Go fuck yourself, Justin.
NOOOOO.
Is there somewhere I could read the pros and cons of this deal?

We knew this before we elected him At least I remember reading the liberals supported it.
I hate how I don't even get surprised when stuff like this happens any more. Goddamnit.
This sucks. I didn't vote Liberal, but this was a fucking inevitability either way.
He said he was going to agree before the election, so you really shouldn't be surprised.
yep, this was the trade off to get rid of harper.
"Real Change" Go fuck yourself, Justin.
I voted for the NDP. I have no regrets.
He was a supporter of it before his election. Disagree or agree with it, but he hasn't done anything wrong.
A politician following through with their word? That's unheard of! How dare he do that!
This is no surprise. We always knew liberals' platform is pro corporate.

Good for him
Fantastic. [sp]not[/sp]
Go fuck yourself Trudeau, I'm glad I didn't vote for you. [editline]1st November 2015[/editline] I actually agree with the Conservative shills, Trudeau is going to run this country into the ground

I wish we got NDP but the NDP ran their campaign into the ground.

Hehe I wanted Mulcair from the beginning. What do I get.
I don't think he meant that the Conservatives were any better, just that Trudeau is shit
You know, if the NDP, and the people of this country had effectively vocalized it, then I believe that TPP would have been a campaign issue, however, it was not, and we didn't even see that. Trudeau got elected while openly supporting TPP, that sucks, but he was open about it, and the NDP never managed to actually vocalize their platform or sell any of their actual stances very well. It sucks. I'm against the TPP, i'm writing my local MP to get him to be vocal for me, but who knows how that'll go. The issue really becomes people expect a lot out of democracy, but don't put a lot into it. TPP was never forced to be an issue, because frankly, almost no one knows about it because not even the media's talking about it very much. It's hard to do anything about that situation. Maybe Trudeau can be plied to change his view, but I know the conservatives wouldn't have changed their view, and the NDP, again, didn't do anything and sat like a lame duck not really able to vocalize effective campaign messages.
Why do you guys hate the TPP so much? I seem to be a minority when it comes to supporting free trade agreements.
I really feel like it's relevant here:
Why do you guys hate the TPP so much? I seem to be a minority when it comes to supporting free trade agreements.
it very much benefits corporations and the wealthy (just ask paul krugman or noam chomsky), there are concerns that it might make the cost of medicine go up due to patent extensions, and based on the leaked chapter on intellectual property there's a whole load of bad shit in there about restricting fair use, stuff about copyright term expansions, the non-complaint provision, etc.
Well we can't win them all but at least it's not Harper inking the paper.
Isn't it a waste of time without china? as far as i know china isn't on board with this bad agreement.
Why do you guys hate the TPP so much? I seem to be a minority when it comes to supporting free trade agreements.
The trade agreement is fine. The expanded IP laws with no consumer protections come to mind. Hell, even if you ignore the riders and some parts of the actual trade agreement itself that various parties find objectionable, the silence till completion is more than enough to question its purposes. In general the people like to know what governments agree on their behalf.

Furthermore, according to various links, the new copyright measures will cripple free speech on the internet, and thus will stifle innovation and competition.
Isn't it a waste of time without china? as far as i know china isn't on board with this bad agreement.
I think China (and a bunch of other countries) are expressing interest in the future. The Chinese state would have a lot to gain from the TPP considering their recent economic slowdown and the ability to trade in more markets more easily.
