• Powerful lawmaker wants to ‘invalidate’ the Endangered Species Act. He’s getting close.
The congressman who said he “would love to invalidate” the Endangered Species Act is closing in on his goal. Rep. Rob Bishop (R-Utah) recently shepherded five bills out of the Natural Resources Committee he chairs that would dismantle the law piece by piece. Many Republicans on the panel say the proposals are necessary changes that would modernize the 1973 law. Democrats and conservationists say the bills would whittle away the law’s ability to save wildlife from extinction. One measure would force the federal government to consider the economic impact of saving a species rather than make a purely scientific call. Another would require the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, which administers the act along with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, to defer to data collected by states as the “best scientific and commercial data available,” although state funding related to the act accounts for a small fraction of that supported by the federal government. Under a third proposal, citizens and conservation groups would be stripped of a powerful tool that allows them to file court claims against the government when they believe its protections fall short. Among other actions, the remaining bills would also remove protections for gray wolves in Midwestern states and block courts from ruling on the validity of the government’s decisions. The legislation is setting up a titanic clash over a law that forms the foundation of American wildlife protection and has been copied around the world. “This will be a battle royal,” said Bob Dreher, vice president for conservation programs at Defenders of Wildlife, a nonprofit group in Washington. “You’re going to see a strong, strong movement opposing cuts to the ESA. I don’t want to sound overly confident or cocky that we’re going to defeat this. It’s going to be the fight of my conservation career.” Unlike earlier GOP attempts to weaken the act, Bishop is poised to realize his ambition because of Republicans’ control of both chambers of Congress and the White House. A Senate committee that previously held hearings on modernizing the act is preparing companion legislation, and a president who favors oil-and-gas development on federal land is more likely to sign it into law.
Source: The Washington Post Emphasis mine. Our country is run by fucking Captain Planet villains.

hundreds of millions of years of biological progress, destroyed by a handful of greedy cunts wanting some extra dosh.
I always assume that this administration and legislature are just taking the piss to see how much we will put up with. I keep feeling like they're gonna shout "PSYCHE!" after reading out any of their policy proposals.
I know they're bought out but these people must have some kind of mental deficiency or psychopathic tendency to not realize how fucking barbaric and dumb this is.
Just watched Blue Planet II and this is awful. These people should be ashamed of themselves, I hate how this world is going with all the wonder there is left to discover. So long as we don't fucking destroy the planet.
I know they're bought out but these people must have some kind of mental deficiency or psychopathic tendency to not realize how fucking barbaric and dumb this is.
So THAT'S why they passed the law allowing mentally ill people to buy guns.
Of course he's a Republican, of course.
Truly the meaning of life is to have a lot of money and live in a barren wasteland.
What can we do to stop this
I hope they fail. Walruses must survive as long as possible.
What can we do to stop this
Correct answer is vote em' out, send strongly worded letters, voice opposition to bills. Realistic answer: There is nothing you can do.
Even as someone who's totally indifferent to global warming...what in the everloving fuck, bud? What are you thinking? Dumb lawmaker, dumb bills, dumb lobbyists.
Even as someone who's totally indifferent to global warming...what in the everloving fuck, bud? What are you thinking? Dumb lawmaker, dumb bills, dumb lobbyists.
I don't understand how any informed person could be indifferent to Climate Change. Could you explain why you think that way? [editline]6th November 2017[/editline]
I hope they fail. Walruses must survive as long as possible.
I don't know why, but your post made me burst out laughing. This is obviously serious and stuff, but I think the specific nature of naming a particular animal gave me this imagination of a world in which walruses are revered by society as godly figures.
So at what point does the Republican party become just objectively evil this is fucking cartoonish
What he says sounds straight out of a cartoon villain's mouth too, what the fuck.
If you had any doubts whether republicans were the biggest threat to the country or not you haven't been paying attention. Also the whole climate change thing too. So maybe the world at large.
Every day it becomes harder to imagine bringing up kids in a world like this. How can people think this way?
Seeing our country being run by literal Saturday morning cartoon villains just makes me wish 3 years was over and I could move to Europe already fuck this country goddamn
Aren't these congressmen voted in by the American people? I fail to understand how someone of such incompetence can get a position like this. Where did you go wrong?
on the one hand, if we drill there it'll make a lot of money, on the other hand it'll perminently remove a species from existence perminently, so we'll never ever ever be able to bring it back and it will leave a huge hole in the food chain, but oil......
A world in which lawmakers who cause serious environmental damage were criminally charged and harshly prosecuted wouldn't be too bad at all.
Jesus christ this is making me SEETH right now. Every 4 letter word isn't enough to describe these pieces of shit.
Gonna email the National Audubon Society about this shit. They already raised attention for this back when it was suggested, but if anyone can do it a second time and get the word out, it's them. [editline]asdjoaisjdojaisd[/editline] done
How the fuck can you sleep at night with an agenda like this? Like seriously? What a fucking psychopath.
How the fuck can you sleep at night with an agenda like this? Like seriously? What a fucking psychopath.
On a bed lined with Franklink's head.
If Congressmen like this asshole had the power to prevent the Endangered Species Act and similar laws from being enacted in the 70s, our own government's mascot would've gone extinct from greedy corporate fuckheads that would rather make a buck than give a fuck. "In economic terms, the Bald Eagle is insignificant because we don't eat them, and they eat fish that MY fishing boats could've caught, so fuck 'em. Let em go extinct. DDT is a cheap bug killer too, so we're keeping that." - Rep. Asshole This brings my piss to a boil, not even because of the Bald Eagle, but because losing just ONE minor species can completely fuck the food chain and lead to even more extinctions. Possibly even a full on Chicxulub mass extinction that could include humanity in it. Enjoy your caviar while you can, Rep. Asshole. Sturgeon are about to go extinct too.

They just don't care, because they'll be dead before the worst of it hits. Meanwhile they get to live like kings for the rest of their lives in exchange for rubber stamping all the corporation's wishes.
This should be a crime against the nation at the very least, and maybe humanity itself to knowingly fuck over the planet/ecosystem long term for such a short term benefit. As stated above alot of these GOP reps are quite old and don't give a fuck about then, it's all about now and when they retire. This is why I think a certain percentage of Congress should be from certain generations/age groups. Say 33-33-33% split between 26-38 year olds 39-51 then 52+ (rough example on age groups and percentages) that way we don't have the average age of 55-63 in the House&Senate. Not only are they unable to be in touch with future and younger generations(3 decades worth at this point), they can't accurately represent these groups. Then it goes back to them being so old they won't feel any of the repercussions of their actions, short term because of money and power, long term because they will be 6 feet under.
it may sound kind of fucked up but i honestly cant wait until these boomers drop dead.
