thank god they changed how traveling works.
Always loved the art style in this game.
Still can't get into it, it's just so boring.
Still can't get into it, it's just so boring.
Finding out that all of the boss fight happen during missions was disappointing to me coming from Terraria. Still a good game if you like building settlements though.
Still can't get into it, it's just so boring.
The early game is ridiculously boring but once you actually get powerups and weapons that aren't shit its a lot more engaging.
Definitely looks like more to play around with. It appeals to me more than Terraria by virtue of being sci-fi, but it does need more.
The ability to build out the spaceship alone is gonna get me back into this. Been wanting this feature since fucking alpha.
Still doesn't help the dull exploration that ties with the underwhelming story.
I mean by and large thats how it is with this style of game really.
The ability to build out the spaceship alone is gonna get me back into this. If you mean build structures outside of the ship, that also has been a feature for a while. The only new building thing in this update is the space stations.
Still can't get into it, it's just so boring.
I'm the same...I have kept trying to get into it here and there over the years but just can't. I have hundreds of hours on Terraria and can play it over an over, but this suffers a serious problem with the grey goo effect where its a great idea, looks great and feels decent to play, but the procedural generation aspect gets way too samey way too fast and I generally quit a session of playing it out of boredom than because it feels like a good time to wrap up. I love the idea of being able to fly around space and explore etc but it feels pointless going to the same type of planet twice.
Starbound will always be overshadowed by Terraria
Still doesn't help the dull exploration that ties with the underwhelming story.
I really don't like it now that they've made structures so frequent. It kills the exploration aspect when you can find most settlement types extremely quickly.
Starbound will always be overshadowed by Terraria
That's just what happens when you build a game in another's shadow
Not a whole lot of people remember when Skeletron was the final boss of Terraria. Terraria had to a long way too from itself.
The difference is Starbound over promised and under delivered, taking forever to release updates and promising shit that wouldn't come to be for years, while Terraria under promised and over delivered, multiple times we were told development in the game was done just for a blowout update to happen and double the content in the game.

I mean shit, games getting massive reworks after launch is hardly even new these days. Payday 2 has been out for years and has had tremendous changes and new content, both paid and free, added. Supporting and building on to a game after launch is basically the standard now.

There was a massive kickstarter for years and when the game launched, way behind schedule, it had almost nothing it promised and ended up being a shell for a long period of time.
pretty sure you got that backwards. There was a massive kickstarter for years and when the game launched, way behind schedule, it had almost nothing it promised and ended up being a shell for a long period of time.
He was talking about Terraria. The point is Terraria was 'done' and people were happy with it and multiple times we've had significant updates to the game. With Starbound it took them years to implemnt fairly basic features which were promised in their Kickstarter campaign. Hell, the ability to build your own ships was made as a mod over two years ago.
Starbound's major issue is that there is nothing to explore, everything interesting is either empty, lootless, or otherwise just terrible. They're just not fun to explore, and mining, which you'll be doing a lot doesn't even really have the result of finding something cool. The planets are empty underground. It doesn't help that they somehow can't make combat fun, and redid it like three times, and it's still worse than 1.0 terraria combat.
i'd like terraria way more if it wasn't such an eyesore to look at
Terraria looks fine TBH, i really adore the way it looks. Starbound just looks bland to me, it doesn't help that it has the extreme "once you seen one planet of each type you've seen them all" problem. Include that with the lack of consistency in the planets themselves (an icy planet with extremely cold temperatures can still have a jungle) which makes them an eyesore (IMO) mixed in with the devs seemingly to go for the fastest and easiest route with everything. I don't think i have been as let down with any game as this, and it's such a shame. It looked so promising when they first talked about it and showed stuff about it, then it just turned into "fuck you, we already have your money".

The original No Man's Sky.

The difference being that Starbound had a ton of hype, a ton of funding and a lot to live up to but they consistently seemed to fall short on their promises.
I really adore the artstyle of Terraria, it reminds me of the old final fantasy games somewhat.
I really adore the artstyle of Terraria, it reminds me of the old final fantasy games somewhat.
The OG sprites for a lot of characters were HEAVILY inspired by old final fantasy sprites
