Elon makes it sound like he kinda reinvented large scale manufacturing. How accurate is that? Sounds like any company would want to reduce wasted space and time as much as possible.

No existing Li-Ion factories are even close to as vertically integrated as this one.
He is really a bad public speaker, but on the other side, it shows he is a human, and not a corporate robot.
Zero rehearsals and no teleprompters.
final destination

The Q&A is on the lower quality Facebook video. Go to about 17 mins: https://www.facebook.com/tesla/videos/10154361126677801/
WOO A FACTORY YEAH I'M SO EXCITED
at this point, instead of building that many solar panels to power this factory, why not have a mini nuclear reactor? [sp] to be fair, i need to a see a chart of numbers and costs to see if this idea makes sense though [/sp] its still amazing what they are trying to pull off
That's a lot of hamsters. [editline]30th July 2016[/editline] The all white, robot-centric design reminds me of Aperture Labs.
Im confused by what the launch means Are they starting construction? Was the building they kept showing a CGI rendering? I thought they meant they started producing cars now
Im confused by what the launch means Are they starting construction? Was the building they kept showing a CGI rendering? When will it turn into a Gigafortress?

Among other issues with constructing, managing and using nuclear reactors, it's difficult to do that with the windup/wind down times of reactors in general. Plus the gigafactory has a lot of roof space.

https://www.eia.gov/tools/faqs/faq.cfm?id=104&t=21 even the smallest reactor can produce ~12 gigawatts in a day, so I guess its a bit overkill

Powered by a mix of solar and wind with climate control being handled by geothermal.
Elon seems like such a nice guy
Dahir Insaat would build a more efficient factory.
Elon seems like such a nice guy
He's not really a nice guy. He's very dedicated to his work, pretty much beyond anything else and expects people around him to commit to it just as much. Apparently in private he curses a metric shit ton. Not to say he's an asshole though.
