I want to believe.
Hasn't this happened before?
half life 3 was confirmed ages ago.
there was a leak of valve's internal file system thing and it listed Half-life 3 with L4d3, Source 2 and source 2 dota 2.
Doubt it
Devin Watson's post in the Half-Life thread is the most pertinent thing to come out of this really.

So could HL3 actually be a open world quest based game? Like the supposed leak?
probably just coincidence or the staff trolling
again

Yeah, what a fun joke. I mean, who would actually take their time to write 3556 lines of code, non of which are repeats.
Also, did you actually open the file? It's filled with references to the combine, NPC companions, quests/missions and invisible hunters.

This just looks like HL2 stuff, but "quest NPC" could refer to scripted sequences, not just generic enemies.
Though it really seems like it is a half life 3 related
Found these things amongst the txt.

Something akin to sneaking/aggro of NPC's although that could be dota 2 related.

doesn't mean it can't be the staff trolling, purposely releasing a HL3 fgd.

They did this before in a TF2 update, don't put too much weight on it.

Seems to be VR related under HL3 codename. Doubt it's the actual HL3. Probably a new engine iteration which uses hl3.exe as base. Kinda like they used to do with hl2.exe and standalone mods.
2 more interesting files from the same update:
doesn't mean it can't be the staff trolling, purposely releasing a HL3 fgd.
That would be teasing, not trolling.
From what I understand, Source 2 was supposed to be designed to handle Open World environments a lot better since that was one of the difficulties about Source 1.
I wouldn't be surprised if Half Life 3 ended up being, not necessarily Open World, but a lot less linear than its predecessors.

I feel like all the secrecy around HL3 is gonna lead to it being properly announced and then it'll come out like the next week or something.

Awfully optimistic.

Whilst I would very much love to see this happen, there is no way a company would do this. There is just too much to be gained from releasing small bits of info to generate hype amongst the consumers and game media.

But this seems pretty legit because Valve pushed this. If this was just a random txt file, anyone could have made it but it was pushed via Steam onto Dota 2
more news of HL3's existence no matter how big/small is good enough for me.
What is really interesting is the procedural animations, or what looks like it.

do people actually think that confirms hl3 as an open world quest based game
what
That would be teasing, not trolling.
ehhh its HL3
do people actually think that confirms hl3 as an open world quest based game
what
No, they just lend to each other. What is your post even trying to do?

I feel like at this point, doing the regular video game announce release thing for HL3 might actually even generate less hype than there is for HL3 now.
I feel like all the secrecy around HL3 is gonna lead to it being properly announced and then it'll come out like the next week or something.
Yeah, and Dwarf Fortress will have multithreading by next year.
They did this before in a TF2 update, don't put too much weight on it.
they release snippets of code every few months and we'll have to compile it ourselves 50 years later
