Tories vow not to increase income tax for UK's richest
Theresa May has repeatedly refused to rule out raising tax on ordinary workers during the election campaign, with income tax and national insurance hikes potentially on the table.
However senior Conservative Cabinet minister Michael Fallon has now told the Daily Telegraph newspaper that the richest would be exempt from any hikes under Tory plans.
Asked if high earners could vote Conservative without risking an increase in their income tax, Sir Michael told the newspaper: “Yes. You’ve seen our record. We’re not in the business of punishing people for getting on, on the contrary we want people to keep more of their earnings.
“The only way they can be sure their taxes won’t rise is to vote Conservative.”

Theresa May has insisted Tory tax plans have not changed after a senior cabinet minister signalled there would be no income tax increase for higher earners.
The prime minister said it was her party's "firm intention to reduce taxes on ordinary working families".
But Sir Michael Fallon said in the Daily Telegraph that there would be no rise in income tax for higher earners.
Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said the Conservatives' tax policies were in "chaos".
The Conservative manifesto scrapped a pledge made by David Cameron in 2015 not to raise VAT, national insurance or income tax.

So brave :goodjob:
It's not (higher taxes) a punishment for earning more, it's a social obligation to do your mite for the less fortunate instead of trying to keep score with your money. I've nothing against high earners personally, but some people really need to understand that inequity is at such a point where the 1% of ultra high net worth individuals now own as much as the remaining 99%.
A good start would be by increasing wages to make working more livable, and some restrictions put in place on the fees needing to be paid in healthcare and education so people dont keep going bankrupt when faced with problems relating to the aforementioned sectors in their lifetimes.
To be fair, Fallon was asked specifically if income tax would be increased on high earners. Had he been asked: "will income tax be increased", and he replied: "not on high earners" then I could totally understand the problem. I think the only thing Fallon is guilty of here is not expanding on his answer by saying that income tax would not be increased for anyone.

Not really. He's pledging not to rise income tax for high earners, while in the manifesto they removed the pledge from the last election not to raise tax at all.

So there's a pledge to not raise tax for high earners, but not a pledge for everyone else.
I guess there's a magic money tree for the rich
Believe it when I see it, but I'd rather not see the tories in power after the eight

Way ahead, don't you worry Jesus.
I really hope you uk peeps don't let the tories win. It's bad enough that my country is run by a group of laughably obvious corrupt cunts, and it could only get worse if you guys lose your election to your brand of it too
Are the Tories completely fucking retarded?

Yeah but so is a lot of the population of the UK unfortunately

If they somehow pull it off, I reckon that there should be protests. Democracy is a nice theory and all, but when the process elects madfolk who are a very real threat to mankind, something's got to give. There needs to be some form of balance to prevent dangerous individuals like New Margaret Thatcher and The Parasitic Toupee from ever entering government, while sane, intelligent, learned individuals lead humanity into the bright future it needs, not the dismal future it deserves

I've never understood the logic of "anyone who doesn't vote for the party I support is stupid". Would it be better for me to just not vote, then?

I think a lot of people just don't see how anyone can support another Tory government after the last 2 (sort of 3). Everyone is entitled to their own opinion though, even if I disagree with it.

No, they're maliciously greedy.

People have their reasons. Mine is that I don't support the Conservatives currently (especially May), but I trust the Labour leadership even less. I would like to see the Conservatives win, but not with a majority. As you say - everybody is entitled to different opinions.

It's more that "anyone who votes for the horrible people party must be stupid". Which is most likely the case.
People have their reasons. Mine is that I don't support the Conservatives currently (especially May), but I trust the Labour leadership even less.
And why is that? Because Corbyn is a dirty pinko who dines with the ghost of Osama while he forgets the figure of nukes he might as well be dropping on Britain himself cause of his unwillingness to blow up more of the world?

The Labour manifesto is fantastic, if you don't like the leadership, which is fair enough, vote for the manifesto.
-snip. Fuck i misread.

You aren't going to vote labour because you don't like their leadership, so instead you would like the party with the weakest leadership? Is this doublethink in action?
I wonder if this will be one of those electoral promises that wont be kept like H. W. Bush's.

No? Because what you are saying is purely opinion. And that's what irks me about the responses I am receiving - people are trying to pass opinion off as fact.

May is an incredibly weak leader, take that as an opinion if it makes you feel better but I can't fully see why anyone would vote for the Tories based on their record

And can you point us to what entails you to believe Theresa May is a good leader who has your best interests in mind? Bonus points if you avoid anything containing the phrase "Strong and stable"

Christ sake. The fact that you think I think that May is a good leader just shows you have paid zero attention to my previous posts. This is exactly the mentality I am arguing against.
Edit: Bonus points for going back and re-reading my posts.

Let's be honest both leaders are very rough around the edges, but based on their records I would say that Corbyn has voted in the interest of the people whereas May has not. That gives him the edge, in my opinion.

That's fine. That's a sensible and well-worded opinion. But many people on both sides are are acting like idiots because they will not accept that people have opposing views.

Oh, I accept that people have opposing views. I'm just not gonna' pretend that someone's views are at all reasonable if they appear to be entirely disjointed from reality.
