According to an estimate done by the Research and Analysis division of Forecasting and Analyzing Digital Entertainment, LLC (FADE); Steam brought in an estimated $970 Million USD during 2010, with December’s total rounding out at an estimated $230 Million alone. What this essentially means is that the digital distribution method of delivering PC games to players around the world which has been a hot button issue at times over the last couple of years is not only a proven method of choice but also a healthy growing market. While there are still many players whom prefer the experience of going to a brick and mortar retailer, the growth seen in 2010 in digital distribution shows where the future is leading.
Included in the release regarding this report, here’s the top selling titles by their estimated gross revenue in 2010.
Top Selling Titles, by Estimated Gross Revenues in 2010
Call of Duty: Black Ops (Activision) - $98.2 Million USD
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (Activision) - $39.4 Million USD
Left 4 Dead 2 (Valve) - $36.0 Million USD
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (Electronic Arts) - $25.4 Million USD
Sid Meier’s Civilization V (2K Games) - $21.9 Million USD
Portal (Valve) - $20.0 Million USD
Fallout: New Vegas (Bethesda Softworks) - $17.0 Million USD
Metro 2033 (THQ) - $13.4 Million USD
Mafia II (2K Games) - $11.9 Million USD
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II: Chaos Rising (THQ) - $10.8 Million USD
We all knew the success seen for Call of Duty: Black Ops, which sold an estimated 1.6 million copies for $98.2 million USD which made Activision the #1 publisher on steam. Given all this success and these estimated numbers, I believe we’ll see even higher growth in 2011, especially with some of the anticipated titles for this year. Included of course Portal 2 from Valve which I expect will drive Steam’s sales when it’s released. Digital distribution is alive and well and growing by leaps and bounds.

In other news, KFC, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut reported a 200% rise in profits since 2009.
Keep in mind, Valve is a private company. That's pure profit.
I wonder how much of that money goes to Valve (I mean apart from the money from sales of Valve games).
Good.
I'm glad to see honest companies doing well.
Keep up the good work Valve
Woo Metro 2033 is on the list :woop:
Lodsemone
Gabe should give some of that to me rather than buying that burger.
How much money from those fucking TF2 microtransactions? Triple that?
i wonder what their net profit is

I love how you're implying he'll stick to a single burger.

Glad to see that Metro 2033 earned a fair share

Valve knows how to earn...
I expect MSoft/GFWL are too embarrassed to release their profits.
I'm glad they've made so much, Valve is a good company.
Don't forget all the little Indonesian boys and girls that work in the Valve sweat shops.

No, you're not getting a cut.
Valve staying private is the vest thing they could have done, that means their on their own schedule can do anything they like without shit from investors, that includes delaying a game to make it better without backlash
Steam is best
Steam is awesome.
activision is making the most profit. if activision made cod exclusive to ps3/xbox steam profit would be shit.
Hmm that's funny because I thought a lot of companies were complaining about the PC market. Hmm that's odd, a single online distributor making almost 1 billion in sales. Wow, I hadn't realized how bad the market must have been.
Well, they're good at the whole "make it loads cheaper and make loads more money" thing.
You don't really see "36000% sales increase" anywhere else (though that's not really everyday even with steam)
And all that money still isn't enough to see an EP3 release...
-snip-
Steam has really exploded in the last couple years.
I blame their wallet sucking Christmas and Christmas in July sales.
Oh, and Midweek Madness.
where's that picture of gabe swimming in money
