Yeah, he goes over that in Watch for Rolling Rocks - each quarter step needs to be inside of a parallel universe, which is why you travel in QPUs (quadruple parallel universes) to begin with. It's not just the velocity at the start of the frame, either, it's the velocity every quarter step as well iirc. Shit's crazy.
I find these videos so damn interesting, really fascinating stuff. :science101:
