[release]In the latest issue of Black & White magazine (french publication about Michael Jackson), composer Brad Buxer confirmed that M.J. and him actually worked on Sonic the Hedgehog 3 soundtrack.
B&W: Can you clarify the rumor that Michael had in 1993 composed the music for Sonic 3 video game, for which you have been credited?
Buxer: I've never played the game so I do not know what tracks on which Michael and I have worked the developers have kept, but we did compose music for the game. Michael called me at the time for help on this project, and that's what I did.
And if he is not credited for composing the music, it's because he was not happy with the result sound coming out of the console. At the time, game consoles did not allow an optimal sound reproduction, and Michael found it frustrating. He did not want to be associated with a product that devalued his music...
B&W: One of the surprising things in this soundtrack is that you can hear the chords from Stranger in Moscow, which is supposed to have been composed later...
Buxer: Yes, Michael and I had composed those chords for the game, and it has been used as base for Stranger in Moscow. [...][/release]
Holy fuck.

I can't believe this has actually been confirmed. How cool.
I remember hearing this rumor, and I heard the similarities, but I thought it was just a coincidence. Pretty awesome.
i bet he wanted his music in the game so he could lure children to his house with sonic 3 for sex

:downsrim:
I always thought MJ's music went along nicely to the Genesis Sonic games
Gonna be hard finding Sonic 3 music now...
Sure Sega's not bullshitting everyone to give their dying sales a much-needed boost?
Damn, I loved the sonic 3 music!

You know when sonic 3 was released, right?

Never released an official soundtrack.

Read the thread again. It's one of Michael's sidekicks who confirmed this, not Sega
They've been having problems with this because different people tell different stories about it. Some confirm, some deny it but no definite answer has come out, though this is the most direct one to date (that being said, there was more than this fellow with MJ).
The consensus correctly is that MJ was brought on to the team, the issue comes out as to whether he actually completed anything while he was there and if any of it was even used in the final game.
A good video about this for those of you not familiar with this (he doesn't allow embedding).

I love Sonic 3.
Wait, Michael Jackson didn't want to be credited for his music in Sonic 3 but he had a shitty game made after him?
Oh my god the fucking nostalgia. I really wish my Genesis wasn't broken, playing this game on an emulator is not the same.
I knew this since forever.
I could provide the soundtrack, but it would take a while to upload/download. Wouldn't really consider it warez by now, abandonware more like.
The thing is, people can say that MJ did pretty much anything now that he isn't around to deny any of it.

what possible reason would he have to be lying

There's someone credited as "Sirocco" in the game's credits which is believed to represent MJ and his team.
Now that I think about the music does indeed have a MJ feel to it. But it could be bullshit or not but I'd like to think its true.
Was Sonic 3 the one with the carnival level where you eventually got to a little room and had to bounce a springy platform down low enough to slip through under it?
If so, I'm glad Michael Jackson is dead.
Wait...there's a magazine all for him
:sigh:
oh wow.
MJ or not, it sure sounds inspired by his music.

He's dead. Leave him alone.

That's why it's a perfect time to announce this. Sonic 3 sales have been downhill since 1996. :smug:
