• Halo 2 servers shutting down... again
To switch gears ever so slightly, we’re sad to report that the service end-date for Halo 2 PC Multiplayer will be February 15, 2013. We’ve been monitoring the population for months, and it’s been peaking consistently at approximately 20 players or less. Those that own this game can continue to enjoy Multiplayer over LAN after that date; however our network services will be turned off at that time. We love you, Halo 2 PC, and you will live forever in our hearts. Well how the fuck is anyone on PC gonna play Halo multi now? Is Gearbox gonna port the 4 or 5 games that came after 2? I highly doubt it.
On my birthday :(
Rip Halo 2 2013.
more so rip 2010 since xbl was shutdown for original xbox games but still
Rip Halo 2 2013.

Those that own this game can continue to enjoy Multiplayer over LAN after that date; however our network services will be turned off at that time
It's not dead. Just the servers. Which means it is still possible to play the game.
you know what I mean...
-snip-
No point in playing the pc-victim card here, their servers peaked at 20 players for fucks sake, there was barely any interest
you know what I mean...
About xbox live on an article mentioning pc servers?
I wonder if people will play it for weeks on end nonstop like they did with the Xbox version of Halo 2 when the servers were shut down.
20 players peak... If the people in this thread getting all teared up are some of those still playing it, that must be about half the remaining playerbase right here haha
It's not dead. Just the servers. Which means it is still possible to play the game.
This. People can use Tunngle or Hamachi if they want to play. And since they were peaking with 20 players, it's not like a whole lot of people are going to be pissed to do so.
Fuck it ): I love playing Halo 2 online, it's so much fun. Now the online's going... What the fuck?
What game will me and my 19 friends play now!?
This. People can use Tunngle or Hamachi if they want to play. And since they were peaking with 20 players, it's not like a whole lot of people are going to be pissed to do so.
I really hope they remove the pay for in hamachi... It sucks.
20 players or not it still sucks to see a classic go offline
On my birthday :(
Mine, too :(
20 players peak So that means pretty much nobody gives the slightest shit about it shutting down then oh well The 12 people playing right now will have to revert to halo 1 online
Fuck it ): I love playing Halo 2 online, it's so much fun. Now the online's going... What the fuck?
If you have friends that also plays the game, the online isn't going anywhere.
Hackers everywhere. The game was basically ruined anyway.
Anyone else think it's funny how Microsoft blamed Halo 2 for the 100 friend limit and that they said that after they shut down the servers they'd be able to increase that limit along with other upgrades to Xbox Live, and yet three years later and nothing has changed at all. Can't wait to hear their bullshit for pulling 360's Live in the years to come.
Aw shit.
Shit sucks, but yeah I rarely saw more than 20 people online, much less 8 in the same game.
I really hope they remove the pay for in hamachi... It sucks.
FYI it still works fine without paying you just can't minimise the window to tray when using it so just keep it open and run your game
Hopefully it really peaks and bungie puts in those silly MOTDs like they did for halo 2 on the original Xbox when it shut down
Wasn't played very much considering that there wasn't the moddability that existed with original Halo and also GAYMES FUR WINDOWS LIVE which probably broke this on half the people's PC's. Also the transition to Halo 2 wasn't very smooth considering that they wanted to force people to upgrade to Vista, which was in fact worse than XP. The last time I tried installing Halo 2 (Retail copy) it gave me some Games for Windows Live error, then another time I tried installing it and it told me the serial code could no longer be used. Anyway, I'm cool with the fact that the original Halo servers are still online, for how long who knows
People play Halo CE more anyways don't they?
On my birthday :(
The day before mine. And on the day I'm going for my driver's permit test.
Halo 1 for PC still peaks at a couple hundred players.
