• G20: Protest death caused by 'excessive, reckless and illegal police violence'
    31 replies, posted
An inquest jury has declared that Ian Tomlinson, who died during the UK G20 protests, was killed unlawfully by a Metropolitan Police Officer. The jury decided that PC Harwood acted illegally, recklessly, dangerously, and used 'excessive and unreasonable' force as Mr Tomlinson was hit with a baton, and then pushed to the ground. Although walking through the protest, Mr Tomlinson was returning home from selling news papers and was not part of the protest, posing no threat to any officer, the jury added. Pathologist Dr Freddy Patel told the inquest that Mr Tomlinson died of a heart attack, but the jury favoured evidence of a number of experts saying he died of internal bleeding. PC Harwood has denied the jury's verdict that he intentionally pushed Mr Tomlinson to the ground. Mr Tomlinson's family are hoping to open a manslaughter case against PC Harwood http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-13268633
They took their damn time, he should of been put to trial for manslaughter from the get go.
Fucking finally :colbert:
Hope he gets life.
Hope he gets life.
Not sure about the UK but in the US he would just get suspended for a few months and then when it's all blown over he'd be back on the streets.
Not sure about the UK but in the US he would just get suspended for a few months and then when it's all blown over he'd be back on the streets.
:v: I know several cops that got suspended for doing stupid shit like this and then being arrested. It really depends on what City you're from. I know in Philly we're short on cops but we have a horrible relationship with the African American community so racism and shit like that is taken seriously. Seriously, not every god damn cop gets away with what they do in the US. Generalizing, you've done it well padawan, you're slowly becoming another facepuncher.
Not sure about the UK but in the US he would just get suspended for a few months and then when it's all blown over he'd be back on the streets.
Well I'm glad the UK judicial system has more sense than the US ones.
Good. Wonder how long he'll get?
'PC Harwood has denied the jury's verdict that he intentionally pushed Mr Tomlinson to the ground.' Yeah right and i'm sure you also didn't intentionally hit him with a baton too for no reason at all?
killed unlawfully
isn't that just called "murder"
Yes , he should get done , but fucking hell he pushed someone over , did he honestly think he would die? he's not a mass murderer. do you stop every time you want to push someone INCASE they die?
Yes , he should get done , but fucking hell he pushed someone over , did he honestly think he would die? he's not a mass murderer. do you stop every time you want to push someone INCASE they die?
He pushed over a man who clearly posed no threat to him, and was also not involved in the protests. At the very least, this is an abuse of power.
isn't that just called "murder"
Murder needs evidence of pre-meditation.
At first I thought this was about the Toronto G20, and I was like "I didn't think anybody died there. Lots of people were arrested and beaten, but nobody died." Then I realized it was Britland and I
They took their damn time, he should of been put to trial for manslaughter from the get go.
They normally do an internal investigation within the agency and then criminal charges are pressed if need be. The justice system takes time, it isn't a easy decision to make. Peoples lives are at stake, if someone is guilty justice will be served.

locking a policeman away, where hell be surrounded with hardened criminals is a good idea? people loke that either come out hardened criminals or insane guys, or both;so give this man a punishment definitely but don't waste away a life and cause more problems.

Specially if the news media is covering the story.
The Rage against the Machine version is the good version, this makes my ears bleed.
True story
Yeah, well its not just in the UK:

I'll just leave this here, because I feel it has a slight relevance, and Charlie Brooker is some kind of demi-god.
Sooooo, both sides pulled stupid shit. Thanks man :3:
He's probably going to get a charge of involuntary manslaughter at the most and will only have to do a couple of years in prison
This is what he said when it first happened (not word for word, but the jist of it): "As the protest was going on we decided to kettle the protesters in an area to prevent further damage to banks and government buildings. Mr Tomlinson was outside the kettling area and walking away from the protests into restricted areas. I told Mr Tomlinson three times to move to the kettling area but he would not listen and carried on walking, so I struck him with my baton and pushed him in the general area of where he should have been - it was not my intention to push him to the ground." He then said, "The Police were subject to over 100,000 people throwing bricks, glass, and paint at them, you can understand the stress this causes. We were told to use 'crowd control' tactics and to remain calm where we were clearly in danger"
