Hey guys, I just got back from another skirmish, and my Steyr just fucked itself over. It was it's first real battle, and the dual trigger firing mechanism just stopped working. It simply refused to fire single shot, and I had to pull the trigger with all my strength to get it to fire full auto. I'm not looking for repair advice though, but a new, more solid primary weapon. I'm thinking along the lines of an M16 or an M4, but I want your guys's advice on what the best options are. I have a budget of around $200, and I've seen some of the options, but I don't know what to think anymore since my friends are idiots who don't know shit about airsoft, mostly because of the Steyr. Thanks.
Lots of options for a M4 under $200 these days. Would you mind a plastic body or prefer a metal body? G&G's Combat Machine M4's are under $200 and feature very durable plastic bodies. ASGI uses them as their base platform for their cheaper custom guns. Definitely worth a look. People say the internals are crap, but the 2 I've handled worked fine and sounded good. The metal body isn't nearly as strong as the CA Proline. I have no idea how, but my friend managed to bend the frame of the upper receiver below the ejection port inwards. This leads me to believe it's pot metal or some softer metal. They share the same weakness as the TM M4 series, weak upper receiver tabs. I've seen too many of these break and make the gun worthless without a new body or new plastic upper receiver. When these tabs snap, the upper receiver can pivot on the front pin freely. JG now has metal bodied versions, but the cheapest starts at $220. Not that I didn't read what you posted, but I'm looking for something that performs well and lasts a long time, the JG guns tend to be powerful and accurate, but they are also very week, and I think have plastic internals. I've heard that Classic Army lasts a long time, but don't perform as well as they should, and G&G invented the Airsoft gearbox didn't they?
Tokyo mauri invented the gearbox. If you don't mind ak's I suggest http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=139_24_200&products_id=5331 It was my first gun and I still use it from time to time.

JG's have a metal gearbox and metal gears just like any other good AEG out there. Whoever told you they had plastic internals was dead wrong. 2. CA's last fairly long, but people complain about their pistons for some reason. Mine have lasted just fine. 3. Tokyo Marui invented the first AEG gearbox and just about every other gearbox on the market. G&G came around way after.
