(CNN)Floyd Mayweather outboxed and outmaneuvered Manny Pacquiao to claim a unanimous points victory in the most lucrative boxing match in history Saturday, taking his unblemished professional record to 48-0 and cementing his place as one of the greatest fighters of all time. After 12 high-intensity and often tactically cautious rounds, the judges' scorecards at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas read 118-110, 116-112 and 116-112 in favor of Mayweather. And while Vegas is a town not unfamiliar with a controversial points decision, there could be little disputing the outcome of this showdown for the WBA, WBC and WBO welterweight titles.
http://edition.cnn.com/2015/05/03/sport/mayweather-pacquiao-fight/index.html A solid fight overall. As hateable as Mayweather is, you gotta give him credit. He really is the greatest fighter of our generation.
Haven't watched it yet, but I read neither of them fought particularly well with Mayweather running around for most of the fight and Pacquiao not being aggressive enough. Didn't Mayweather pay for the judges and referee though?
Why did the internet explode with this news? People who gave no fucks about boxing are suddenly flooding my feeds with this
i was hoping for mayweathers face to hurt, not his feet

Why did this match suddenly turn all my friends who've never liked boxing into people that won't shutup about this match?

He actually threw slightly more punches and landed more than Pacquiao who has known to be a volume puncher. I think Floyd did have a hand in choosing the refs and judges, but it didn't really matter with the scores being fair overall.

I was rooting for the Pac-man, but Maywhethe really played it safe.
I'll just say this since no one else said it yet. Pacman deserved the win more. Mayweather pulled up a fight too, but the majority of the match was Pacman putting him near the corner or ropes. Overall Mayweather fought well, but Pacman simply did more imo. [editline]3rd May 2015[/editline] The one thing I found most strange was during the first 4/5 rounds Mayweather had perfect 10s for just dodging. He barely ever countered anything Pacman did during those rounds, yet he had more points for some reason.

Overall this is a pretty accurate summary for those of you that missed the match.

Manny had a couple flurries, but they weren't clean hits on Floyd, and Floyd clearly beat him by percentages and matchinq Manny in volume of punches thrown. If this was 6-7 years ago, Manny would've definitely been more aggressive, but as he showed tonight you can't beat Floyd with a conservative gameplan.
He's not the greatest fighter of our generation if he runs from the fight and just strikes off and on before pulling out. Go down some weight and watch Golovkin fight he's had a great KO streak and he's always constantly making the pace of his fights.
As hateable as Mayweather is, you gotta give him credit. He really is the greatest fighter of our generation.
That's a funny way to write "Klitchsko".
That's a funny way to write "Klitchsko".
Don't you mean the Klitchsko brothers?
But can he beat world famous pugilist Tommy Ray Handley?
I never knew all my friends were boxing experts and professional analysts of sporting events. However none of them know what a clinch is. Weird. The fight was excrutiatingly boring however and nothing was getting done. Floyd was running around and not doing much and Manny was missing a lot of hits.
That's a funny way to write "Klitchsko".
That guy is absolute garbage. He's winning all the fights thrown at him, true, but he's not fighting in those fights - just jabbing for score points, then going into clinches when someone tries to attack him. Every. Single. Fucking. Fight. It's not even funny.
Mayweather made more money than what the ALS ice bucket challenge was able to get in donations in the span of about an hour, yet the guy would struggle with reading "The Cat in the Hat" because he's practically illiterate. Watching the fight all I can say is it wasn't worth the price tag, it was an over hyped match.

The whole event was boring the presenters/announcers did a segment about how the sport wasn't dead because this is a record breaking fight and they have all these celebs in attendance and then the fight was 40 minutes of nothing. Oh and Jamie Foxx singing the US national anthem was just a massive joke.
Why did this match suddenly turn all my friends who've never liked boxing into people that won't shutup about this match?
It was really well-promoted. I admit I don't follow boxing regularly but I think it's a cool sport and I occasionally have flurries of intense interest (I'm blaming you, Fight Night Tyson vs. Ali demo).
I only watched it because I work for a TV provider and we had it for free because IT was monitoring the systems. We had a couple issues leading up to the bell, but nowhere near as bad as DirecTV had it (their phone lines went down an hour before the fight). Mayweather came off as a prick pretty much the entire time he was in the ring, but Pac needed to be more aggressive.
