Reports of Friday's assault came as government forces claimed to have recaptured the village of the late President Saddam Hussein, and as the country's top Shia religious leader denounced Iraq's failure to form a new government. A fighter jet targeted about eight vehicles attacking government forces at Baiji, north of Baghdad, Sabah al-Nuaman, Iraqi's security spokesman, told the AP news agency. He said up to 30 rebel fighters were killed, but the number cannot be independently verified. Government forces also reported the recapture Saddam's village of Awja on Thursday night although again that report could not be verified. Nuaman also said a helicopter gunship fired on a house in the town of al-Qaim near the Syrian border, where a gathering of local leaders of the Islamic State rebel group was taking place. He said there were several casualties, but did not have a definite figure. Good job, keep them off our oil.
America would bring them freedom if they reached the Iraqi oil
It's the dream that we all share. It's the hope for tomorrow...'s better gas prices.
I hope ISIS retaliates and finally finishes Iraq. [editline]5th July 2014[/editline] It's just bows and arrows against the lightning.
Did I miss an obvious joke or are you really that insane?
Who is going to stop them? the Iraqi military sure isn't. 30 fighters killed, allegedly, and how many has ISIS killed so far? Better to just get this over with sooner rather than later since no one wants to intervene.
I'd be willing to bet that this was the work of the SU-25s they got shipped last week
Good job, keep them off our oil.
It's probably China's oil, I'm not sure which oil fields went to which countries but I know there was heavy Chinese investment in new Iraqi oil contracts.

The group is led by people so aggressive that most other terrorist groups have chosen to distance themselves. When Al-Qaeda are saying "that group needs to chill out", you know they are doing some fucked up stuff. Also the ideology of their leader/self proclaimed "caliph" is anti-western to pretend that if we just let slaughter innocents in the middle east that they would leave us alone.

Its a general sunni uprising across an entire country where ISIS are only numbered in the few thousand.
tbh the majority of the rebels are not even ISIS they're just the most headline grabbing
tbh once the uprising is nearing an end, ISIS will form a new government with the rebels as citizens. ISIS will be far more powerful and have an actual national army to uphold it's national sharia values.

Are we seriously calling this just "Islamic State"? Sure, maybe that's what they named it, but can't be at least use the arabic (or whichever language prevails) name? Because I'm sure I'm not alone in reading this title and thinking "Okay, which one? Oh wait, that one."

No other real nation is actually just called Islamic State

Oh wait, that one."
I think that's the idea though behind the general shortening of the name, they ideally seek to return to the days when the lands of Islam were simply that (which ended for a reason...). That being said, the actual Arabic name they use is al-Dawlah al-Islāmīyah/الدولة الإسلامية which is exactly "The Islamic State", so it's a proper name at this point. Unfortunately for them, in consequence to them being complete morons, they also have no clue about the rigor and meaning behind the title of caliph and it's adoption. They've been rightfully criticized by Muslim jurists and others who actually know the religion ever since they defiled it.
