Its good to see a new "Adam Ruins Everything" video/episode. Apparently he's getting a second season and a live show(don't ask me how that's gonna work).
Adam Ruins Everything is great, I didn't know he did stuff with college humor.
Here's an interesting clip from his show

On the topic of award ceremonies, though, yeah it's pretty obvious that the Grammys blindly follow money and pop music. Even with the Oscars, I read an article that said most of its voters don't even see all the nominated films before voting. As a result, I don't put much trust in award shows.
I never really even understood why anyone gives half a shit about the Oscars or any awards show. I guess there's some preconceived notion that the people who decide who wins are these huge genius critics or whatever on a higher level than us, but I don't even know who they are.
It essentially sounds like I'd be tuning in to hear what some random assholes say is the best movie or whatever.
Surely the best movie is a personal thing though? Like something you should think for yourself on?
oh fuck ray wise

That's where it started.

Me and most of the people I knew never gave a shit about Oscars or Emmies unless it was either something we were already liking as our opinions or something up our alley. The only Oscar films that I ever watched and enjoyed with my family were The Dark Knight, It's a Wonderful Life, The LOTR trilogy, and The Greatest Story Ever Told. I don't mind the Academy Awards, but if it has a film that I'm already liking I'll probably tune in to see if it won.
Lets face it as well, these ceremonies are snobby as fuck as well, even against the opinions of critics.

You only have to look at it to see how out of sync they are and their huge biases against Animation and blockbusters. (No Raiders Of The Lost Ark? Come on)

The Grammys are notorious for nominating pretty shallow pop songs/albums because: 1)it's what people are familiar with 2)its gets them more ratings.
It's pretty much an award show for the lowest common denominator music fan (aka your average person).
Unfortunately, they don't look for just critical acclaim, they also want pop appeal. It's not like the Oscars where an art house foreign film can get a best picture nominee.

lol, animation is never really taken seriously

Uhhh. I didn't think anyone took the Oscars seriously anymore. It's literally nothing but a circle jerk where a bunch of pretentious twats vote for who they think should win based on some twisted idea of which actor deserves it instead of which performance deserves it. Pretty sure it's been well known for a while a ton of votes get placed without the voters even seeing the movies.

Holy shit how is #1 still alive with how big of a stick they have firmly shoved up their ass.

US media culture has its head firmly buried in its ass about the role and demographic of animated features, and that's such a greatly worded example of the attitude.
We're only recently getting a lot of genuinely smart media targeted at younger audiences, so much so that it's absolute culture shock when people find out about it. Sometimes you get things like the brony fandom where older people can get super invested in things, or staunch resistance (IE that guy who basically thinks 'animation' means 'mindless cartoons for babies, fuck off with that barbie princess shit'.
With the consistent flow of good, smart movies and shows coming out these days, and the 'adult' generation slowly becoming more and more of the 80's-90's kids who appreciate the mediums a bit more due to firsthand nostalgia, I'm sure the perception will continue to improve.

The worst part is that was the same year The Wind Rises was nominated, which is mature and special af.

When I was younger, I used to think the Oscars were a vote for what everyone thought was the best.
But no, that would make sense!

Wow, I didn't realize that 4chan judged the Oscars.

This is part of the reason the marvel movies have been such smash hits. They aren't particularly deep or thoughtful movies in any objective sense, but they scratched an itch and made bank as a result.
Execs were completely blindsided by this, even after lord of the rings paved the way by becoming one of the most successful projects in history, in spite of many budget/logistical problems.

Found it.
I only watch the ones that my kid wants to see, so I didn’t see [The] Boxtrolls but I saw Big Hero 6 and I saw [How to Train Your] Dragon [2]. We both connected to Big Hero 6 — I just found it to be more satisfying. The biggest snub for me was Chris Miller and Phil Lord not getting in for [The] Lego [Movie]. When a movie is that successful and culturally hits all the right chords and does that kind of box-office — for that movie not to be in over these two obscure freakin’ Chinese fuckin’ things that nobody ever freakin’ saw [an apparent reference to the Japanese film The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, as well as the Irish film Song of the Sea]? That is my biggest bitch. Most people didn’t even know what they were! How does that happen? That, to me, is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen.
MY VOTE: Big Hero 6

Found it.
Well ain't that something. Scary to think that these kind of people can determine who wins a Oscar. I didn't even see The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, but now I do.
i agree animation is for 6 year olds

yep only 6 year olds could appreciate this
Adam's mannerisms and style of presentation remind me heavily of Alton Brown. I really like it.

I wasn't aware of those new releases, thanks!
I can never think of Ray Wise as anything but the president from Red Alert 2.

Ray Wise is in a ton of shit. Whenever I see him I think Leland Palmer from Twin Peaks.

Funny you mention that. I saw the full episode on TV that covered this, celebrity red-carpet fashion, Movie ratings, and how staged reality TV is, and the guy with the funky hat made the exact same reference. The episode was great, and had a few other celeb cameos. There's even a bit where Adam [sp]reads lines from his own show.[/sp]
