The measure now needs to be signed by Governor Martin O'Malley to become law. Correspondents say it will be a formality as the Democratic governor has campaigned for five years to have the death penalty repealed. Once signed into law, Maryland will become the 18th US state to abolish executions.
Obligatory map
Texas is getting more lonely by the day.
Hopefully the rest of the USA will eventually follow
Honestly did not know that much of the US still executed people
Another step toward human rights in America. [editline]15th March 2013[/editline] Wait, New Mexico has no death penalty statue yet has executed people since 1976? What the hell?
I get why the Death Penalty is this big process, it's just this huge fucking mess though. Through the huge beuracracy, to the massive amounts of money they pay for each dosage of syringe.

What the hell?
So the families of people that some asshole raped, tortured, mutilated, murdered, and then ate, don't have the right to see the bastard die for his crimes?
So the families of people that some asshole raped, tortured, mutilated, murdered, and then ate, don't have the right to see the bastard die for his crimes?
The criminal has a right to life, like all. Rights are inalienable and eternal.
So the families of people that some asshole raped, tortured, mutilated, murdered, and then ate, don't have the right to see the bastard die for his crimes?
what does revenge achieve? they have the right to see the jackass in jail rest for the rest of his life, unable to get out, only able to eat, piss, shit, and sleep when the guards tell him to, and paranoid that he might be stabbed by an inmate
So the families of people that some asshole raped, tortured, mutilated, murdered, and then ate, don't have the right to see the bastard die for his crimes?
I hate the idea someone killed someone else, they should be killed :downs: Also, someone wrongly imprisoned can appeal. Someone wrongly executed can't.
So the families of people that some asshole raped, tortured, mutilated, murdered, and then ate, don't have the right to see the bastard die for his crimes?
Revenge doesn't solve anything, the ideal should be rehabilitation, but anyway, is the preventable accidental death of even one innocent acceptable in modern society?
So the families of people that some asshole raped, tortured, mutilated, murdered, and then ate, don't have the right to see the bastard die for his crimes?
No because it's 2013, not 1013.
California recently (or I think it was the very end of last year) had a vote to abolish the Death Penalty. It lost to a landslide I think. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Proposition_34_(2012)
The proposition was eventually defeated with 53% of the vote against it,[SUP][1][/SUP] despite the fact that supporters had spent 6 times more money in the campaign than opponents.[SUP][2][/SUP]
On his side though, families may taste good. [editline]15th March 2013[/editline] Mmmm, love and affection. Salty tears, like salt and vinegar chips..
Inspired to make this [hd]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pW1WXduQHic[/hd]
So the families of people that some asshole raped, tortured, mutilated, murdered, and then ate, don't have the right to see the bastard die for his crimes?
The death penalty is like falling to a murder's level. Is murdering a murderer really right? Aren't you just doing what he does?
So the families of people that some asshole raped, tortured, mutilated, murdered, and then ate, don't have the right to see the bastard die for his crimes?
Could just put them in isolation for the rest of their lives.
what does revenge achieve? they have the right to see the jackass in jail rest for the rest of his life, unable to get out, only able to eat, piss, shit, and sleep when the guards tell him to, and paranoid that he might be stabbed by an inmate
Death Penalty has none of that. If they're on death row, they live like white collar, rich criminals.
Could just put them in isolation for the rest of their lives.
That would be inhumane. [editline]15th March 2013[/editline]
Inspired to make this [hd]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pW1WXduQHic[/hd]
Smurfy, I love you.
So the families of people that some asshole raped, tortured, mutilated, murdered, and then ate, don't have the right to see the bastard die for his crimes?
But what about the families of the murderer that was murdered for murdering? Should we murder the murderer that murdered the murder for murdering?
The death penalty is just a fancier version of the Middle East's "eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth" bullshit.
So the families of people that some asshole raped, tortured, mutilated, murdered, and then ate, don't have the right to see the bastard die for his crimes?
Nope.
The death penalty is like falling to a murder's level. Is murdering a murderer really right? Aren't you just doing what he does?
A murderer doesn't pamper his victims and provide them with over 20 years of fair trial.
To the people saying "I'm against the death penalty, this way he gets to sit in a miserable cell for the rest of his life getting buttfucked and beaten," you're just as bad as the people supporting the death penalty.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_Proposition_34_(2012)
I actually petitioned on behalf of this proposition back in the Fall, it's a real shame it didn't go through. The ACLU (at least the branches in our county and in San Francisco) supported it too.

Death row is often like better than the actual other prisons. They're given an incredible amount of privileges since they're under lockdown by so much security that they couldn't do anything wrong.
A murderer doesn't pamper his victims and provide them with over 20 years of fair trial.
What is this post supposed to be? Are you implying that if someone did do those things they suddenly wouldn't be a murderer? As far as I'm concerned the death penalty is basically legalized murder, especially when you consider the innocent victims who ended up executed by this process only to have evidence challenging their guilt come out after they are already dead. They are killing a contained criminal for no reason other than retribution.
And uninformed. Death row is often like better than the actual other prisons. I'm talking about these:
what does revenge achieve? they have the right to see the jackass in jail rest for the rest of his life, unable to get out, only able to eat, piss, shit, and sleep when the guards tell him to, and paranoid that he might be stabbed by an inmate
Types of posts. This guys would prefer inmates have to suffer through such an existence. One could argue that this is a fate worse than death.
