Some of the diplomatic calls with his counterparts in the Middle East were made not on secure, scrambled channels but on regular phone lines. The calls were intercepted by the Israeli secret services, Der Spiegel said Sunday, citing intelligence sources. In addition to the Israelis, who used the eavesdropped information to get leverage during the talks, at least one other secret service was monitoring Kerry’s calls, Der Spiegel added. Heh, US gets a dose of its own medicine.
I'm sure US officials don't have an issue with this. I mean... come on... it would be highly hypocritical.
Even if it hypocritical, this could really damage the relationship between the US and Israel. I doubt the US will take kindly to this.
Israel Kamakawiwo'ole must've sneaked a tapped ukulele into the office, I guess
I'm pretty sure they expected that as they would in any situation where they don't have full control.
Looks like the shoe is on the other foot
Israel has been spying on *everyone* since it was Israel, not really anything new. Still amusingly ironic when it comes to America I guess. I kinda wish they complained about this.
Heh, US gets a dose of its own medicine.
If you think Israel is the only one who has done and is doing it, you're mistaken. There is a reason the intelligence community regularly refers to Israel as the number one intelligence risk in the world. They regularly spy on us and use that information against us and other allies.
They hit the USS Liberty, they sold US technology to China and the US did not give a shit.
if i'm not mistaken the intelligence community of the US absolutely HATES israel due to those things(especially the selling shit to china part).
if i'm not mistaken the intelligence community of the US absolutely HATES israel due to those things(especially the selling shit to china part).
Yeah, exactly. The people involved definitely give massive shits. They're just overruled by the idiot politicians who get massive political gain by craming Israel's cock down America's windpipe. I don't see how anyone's surprised that Israel would spy on unencrypted lines no matter who was using them. Israel has demonstrated that it holds itself far above even its closest ally, America.

If you think the US is the only country that regularly engages in this sort of behavior, or that this is some shocking revelation that will affect geopolitics, you haven't been paying attention.

People like to think their country is innocent and would never spy on an ally like the U.S. does. But they all do it; to not do so would be stupid. The only reason they make a big deal about the U.S. right now is it gives them something to leverage both at home and to get better dealings with the U.S. "Hey, the U.S. spied on us! I'm against that! Vote for me!" "Well, the U.S. wants to arrange some new trade agreements, but they spied on us so the people want more out of it!"
great allies
