I got FL Studio like 4 days ago and I've been messing around with it, it's pretty easy to use. I made a couple of songs and I'd like some constructive criticism on em.
This is the very first song I made, and I was still getting a grasp on structuring and such so it's pretty short.

This is the second one I made, after a bit of CC from an IRL friend. I'm happier with the structuring and length with this one.

If anyone has any tips on how I can make longer songs without getting repetitive or "samey", or really any tips for FL Studio in general, I'd be very appreciative of them.
Try to keep all your notes within the same key, and look at putting a limiter on your track to stop clipping. Also need to turn down some instruments and make the drums stand out more
practice makes perfect i guess, the mastering is ok so that's a plus
just work on everything really
(I'm going to be brutally honest)
I suggest you play a keyboard more often. Because it sounds like you just hit random keys till you thought it "worked". Learn about chords. They are invaluable. Some notes flow together in certain patters. Some do not. Listen to some music, and study it. Listen to how the notes change from one to the next. Listen to how the bass sounds against the higher notes. All of it is extremely important, and none of it is incredibly hard to do, once you understand how and why music is what it is.
Thanks for being brutally honest, I don't play a keyboard very often and I was afraid it sounded like I hit random keys until I thought it sounded good because that's what I did. I know how triads work, but my theory knowledge is meh. I think that I'll put a little more thought into it the next time I make something, and really think about the key and whatnot.
I purposely didn't say music theory because personally I don't see it as required. It might even interfere with your creativity. But if you are not willing to dedicate hundreds upon hundreds of hours to improving your craft, its a great shortcut! :D Just keep trying. :D
I think theory is going to be helpful for a lot of things, and I play guitar mainly so this is kind of a side thingy. Right now most of my guitar lessons are more of theory lessons. I find that the more theory I learn, the easier it is for me to express myself through music. I don't directly think about it when I'm making music, but it helps.
Haha I actually found this pretty interesting. I liked the dischordant nature of the first piece and the awkward notation. To me, it reminded me of 16 bit genesis/megadrive music, like some kind of icecap stage or something... Keep on experimenting!
What I do, is I learn scales, the ones that sound interesting to me, and stick to them. Key changes throughout a song sound good, but if they are too frequent it just sounds odd and disturbing.
