I’ve never been more proud of Blizzard and the quality of its products than I am now. It’s remarkable that even after all these years we can still reach new heights and take the world for an amazing ride. I believe Blizzard’s future is brighter than ever. I won’t lie—it’s going to be really hard stepping away from these worlds that I love. But I’m content that I’m leaving them in the hands of the most passionate, talented, and dedicated craftsmen ever assembled. I can’t wait to see where Blizzard’s worlds go next—and to experience them first-hand like everyone else does. As a fan. As an adventurer. Right back to the start. That’s just so cool… The reason I use the word “retire” is because I’m not going to some other company or starting up new projects or anything remotely like that. It’s been a long, amazing stretch of years. Now it’s time to slow it down. Rest. Lay around on the couch and get fat. Well, fatter.… Seriously though, I’ll be focusing on the one thing that matters most to me in all the world—my family. They’re the core of my life and the source of my deepest joy and inspiration. In addition to raising our two little ones, we recently welcomed our new baby into the family! Being home with them all, having time and space to really live…to love my wife with all my strength…that’s my career now. And I’ve never been happier. Ever. ☺ Peace out, y’all. I love you all. I’ll see you online. Chris
Source. This caught me off guard when I saw this. I wonder what is happening internally at Blizzard, a lot of long time veterans of the company have been leaving over the past year. I hope he enjoys retirement though.
Good for him to focus on his family. But thank God. Maybe Blizzard can salvage Warcraft lore now.
Holy fuck, who's going to voice act.... basically everybody? Who will be thrall's cumbun? So many questions.

no more self-insert orcman and expies? good on him though. left quite the legacy aswell.
Does this mean Thrall's not gonna be the center of every xpac? Does this mean Thrall will finally fucking die?
Does this mean Thrall's not gonna be the center of every xpac? Does this mean Thrall will finally fucking die?
I'd rather not have thrall die tbh. I think it'd be cool if he does what metzen did and retired to be with his wife and child. He's done enough. And then maybe he pops up in a little quest chain in the future where he espouses horrible dad jokes.
This is the biggest thing that influences WoW. Oh shit.
I think he did a good job with the worldbuilding of Overwatch. Writing characters and conflicts, not so much. Still a bit sad to hear though, least he wasn't on the same level as Ken Penders from what I've seen and heard of him.
He's the man who is responsible for giving us the Warcraft series we know and love today. If it wasn't for him we never would have played Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos and the expansion The Frozen Throne. We never would've seen the mmo or expansions to it that were such a big part of millions of peoples lives. At the same time he was the man who made Thrall the focus of everything, and no one could get away from it which really hurt the experience of the games for many. It's both sad, yet relieving to see him go and embrace the next chapter of his life. He honestly deserves the best and I wish him a happy retirement with his family.

This is very odd for me. As far as I know he's responsible for a lot of writing blunders(if not nearly all of them), but at the same time, being at the core he's gotta be a part of what's made Blizzard so good through the years. I don't know if I should be happy or sad over it.

Love the guy as a person, but some of the stuff he wrote in the past few years wasn't as good as some of his earlier stuff. He's great at worldbuilding, just not the detailing or something.
Thats one lucky dude. He can up and retire to be with his family.

The like, one person. Me.
Too late sadly since he already ruined Star Craft
StarCraft sucks anyway. I just wish he didn't ruin Thrall for me.
Too late sadly since he already ruined Star Craft
This is a lot of misconception, Metzens' parts of Starcraft are very notable and distinct from every other part of Starcraft, because they're about Jim Raynor sat in a Bar getting wankered and wallowing in self pity. He wasn't the one who turned Kerrigan into a star-god. All the best for Metzen though, I may not agree with everything he did but he played a huge role in a game that I've played more than any other.

the only good story in warcraft has been the fall of arthas, rise of the scourge anyways

Retire? At 42? Isn't that a bit early?
Retire? At 42? Isn't that a bit early?
He's probably got fat stacks and even if he wanted to work again, despite being old, he's got some credentials that mean he'll probably do just fine.
Retire? At 42? Isn't that a bit early?
Dude's fucking loaded. Surprised he didn't do it earlier.
the only good story in warcraft has been the fall of arthas, rise of the scourge anyways
I thought the stories in Pandaria were good, except for the ending with Garrosh ruining everything.
Does this mean Thrall's not gonna be the center of every xpac? Does this mean Thrall will finally fucking die?
Thrall retired as the leader of the Earthen Ring your Shaman character instead takes charge.
Saw this on reddit, supposed to be a statue that is being made for Chris. I don't know if its 100% true or not, but its a cool piece of art either way: [t]http://i.imgur.com/pJJBH4K.jpg[/t]
Thrall retired as the leader of the Earthen Ring your Shaman character instead takes charge.
i wish other classes could get informed of shit that happens to other classes like this
Thrall retired as the leader of the Earthen Ring your Shaman character instead takes charge.
But it's a MMO. Everyones character becomes the leader?
