Analysts at Bank of America-Merrill Lynch and Bank of Montreal lowered their targets on Facebook 34% and 40%, respectively, though they cited different reasons for the cuts. Facebook shares sank 95 cents, or 5%, to $18.14—a new low—Friday. That puts the shares at about 52% below their initial-public-offering price of $38. Bank of America analyst Justin Post dropped his target on the shares to $23, still about 25% above the social network's current trading price. He cited pressure in the short term from the looming expirations of "lockup" agreements that had prevented some early investors and company insiders from selling shares. But on the plus side, he noted the potential for new advertising formats to help drive revenue growth next year. "We remain constructive on FB's opportunity to drive an acceleration in revenue growth from new ad formats," Mr. Post wrote Friday. "We see the success of new ad formats as paramount for the stock." However, "recent selling activity on the August lockup suggests to us the risk of future selling pressure," he said. "And we wouldn't expect [the] stock to see buying momentum until December." Facebook stock fell 6.3% on the day an August expiration made 271 million shares eligible for trading, adding to the 421 million already in the market at the time. The next Facebook lockup expiration comes Oct. 15, when another 249 million shares will be freed up. The biggest expiration will take place Nov. 14, when 1.32 billion shares—including shares held by Facebook Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg—become available for trading. Dec. 14 will free up 149 million more, with the final 47 million shares available for trading freed up in May. Meanwhile, BMO analyst Daniel Salmon sees more challenges for Facebook beyond the lockup expirations. It might be hard for the company to meet a 4% revenue-growth target in the third quarter, he said. "We expect investor attention to return to fundamentals after the technical challenges presented by lockup expirations over the next six months have been absorbed by the stock," said Mr. Salmon, who cut his target to $15—18% below Friday's trading level—and reduced his third-quarter revenue target to flat. "Valuation is underpinned by revenue growth, and we believe flat 3Q sequential growth would be met with a step down." Mr. Salmon rates Facebook at "underperform," while Mr. Post maintains a "neutral" rating on the shares. BMO's $15 target is by far the lowest of the 22 analysts with estimates, according to FactSet data. The average of all targets is a price of $33.27, more than 80% above Friday's trading level. The next-lowest Facebook target is $20.30 from Axia Financial Research. Oppenheimer's Jason Helfstein and Piper Jaffray's Gene Munster have the highest targets at $41. A spokeswoman for Facebook declined to comment.
The title sounded like it was talking about the things people shared on Facebook.
Why do people rate low shares winner
Why do people rate low shares winner
Because most of FP thinks Facebook is the worst thing ever, partially due to their horrible track record with privacy.
Why do people rate low shares winner
Because, if I recall correctly, Facebook is one of the many things a lot of people on here disagree with. I don't actually blame them, I hate Facebook and a lot of the things on it.
people here hate facebook because they have no friends outside of videogames.
Because, if I recall correctly, Facebook is one of the many things a lot of people on here disagree with. I don't actually blame them, I hate Facebook and a lot of the things on it.
Celebrating the misfortunes of a company seems a tad immature though.
Why do people rate low shares winner
People are dumb. Low shares isn't a good thing for anyone involved with it.
people here hate facebook because they have no friends outside of videogames.
I hate FB because people have no friends outside of FB And privacy things etc.
Celebrating the misfortunes of a company seems a tad immature though.
I guess, but this is an internet forum. I doubt rating a post 'winner' has any kind of implication that they ACTUALLY want Facebook to burn and die in a painful torrent of death, and will express this in real life with real people.
I hate FB because people have no friends outside of FB And privacy things etc.
>Privacy settings Also, Facebook is probably the best social networking site to possibly exist. They keep it updated, they redesign it to keep it fresh (much to the chagrin of the average user), and they allow for as many friends as you have. It is also a nice way to meet some new friends on the web and keep in touch with your friends of old. So stop saying Facebook is bad. You're clearly just not using it properly.

We are the people who rate "Something bad happens to Apple" a bajillion Winners

If I magically deleted all my friends and acquired some decent intelligent replacement friends, facebook would be one of my favourite sites...
Because most of FP thinks Facebook is the worst thing ever, partially due to their horrible track record with privacy.
I'm not sure why people would expect privacy for a site designed from the start to make personal information public.
Unsubscribe button exists bro
That'd be okay for someone with only a *few* shitty friends but the only people who are intelligent and are liable to post things that I'd like to read NEVER post. I sound a bit grumpy, I don't mind these people in real life at all but for some reason as soon as they get on their laptops they think that EVERYONE needs to know about their life or see the hilarious cat picture they found, not to mention the, at the least unsavoury attention whoring on profile pictures, etc. I'd prefer to go on here and discuss real topics with people here, although I may not know them in real life it's generally a better experience.
People who hate Facebook because "of the people on it" are retarded. I use Facebook and keep in touch with many friends who go off to college for majority of the year and they're highly mature and educated. If you have a bunch of dumbasses all over Facebook, it's not the website's fault, it's your fault for having such shitty friends.

while facebook is shit, the only real competition is Google+ and that is insanely underfeatured.
people here hate facebook because they have no friends outside of videogames.
Sometimes there can be a lot of reasons which I'm slowly gathering 1. People may have close communication with friends all the time through email, text or calls. They don't need to keep up because they see them everyday 2. People use alternative solutions like G+, Orkut (why) or twitter to communicate, people usually do that when all their friends agree to it. 3. People may not have friends at all and prefer to do nothing about it which is usually sad. I have Facebook keep in mind along with some other social networks. You know if we look into it, facepunch is classified as a social network because it's a forum. So at least you're social on the Internet somehow!
Specifically? You may call it underfeatured but I call it tidy. It hasn't turned into some gelatinous tumour like Facebook yet. It has core functionality which works and looks great. (IMO)
The reason it is because nobody uses it. Why? Because it is too complicated for the average user as well as they already have Facebook and that works fine so what's the point? As a result, you get features that hardly work and a dead social networking website. Also, if you're calling Facebook a tumor, you're looking in the wrong places.
I like talking to my friends and keeping up with things on Facebook, but I knew that when it went public, it wouldn't last..
Google+, complicated? Is that some kind of joke? Facebook is this in social network form: [t]http://4chanarchive.org/images/v/77768902/1289028129875.png[/t] Also, do tell what doesnt work in G+. I mean the mobile app is immeasurably better than Facebooks. The interface is cleaner too.
>opinions on the interface As for what doesn't work, when I last tried using a chat room it buggered off and wouldn't let me talk, and my friend couldn't use their webcam. Also, the average user will be confused by the Circle system because it isn't explained well enough or what the practical uses of it are. Also also, I have had literally maybe one problem with the Facebook app and that was that it crashed once. That's it.
It was obvious that Facebook would be a horrible company to invest in.
I thought people hated Facebook for all the spergs on it and how it was a "Who can have the most friends" contest in the beginning for little kids. I guess I was wrong
That too, but there's bigger issues now.
Why do people rate low shares winner
same reason why people rated Zynga firing a whole bunch of people winner. it's because nothing is more important than my own petty and insignificant preferences.
Why do people rate low shares winner
I've head rumors they tried to sue Garry Newman or Facepunch over using the word 'face'. But I could be wrong.
I've head rumors they tried to sue Garry Newman or Facepunch over using the word 'face'.
do you see the words Face(tm) anywhere on Facebook
Because most of FP thinks Facebook is the worst thing ever, partially due to their horrible track record with privacy.
FP thinks Facebook is the worst thing ever because Facebook is popular and FP is 13.
no one is going to switch to google+ any time soon, so FB is all we got, and it works fine enough
