He also apparently loves Know Your Meme
“It was a way to associate an ad with a user’s page without putting it directly on the page, which advertisers worried would imply an association between their brand and the page’s content. Specifically, we came up with it when a major car company freaked out that they’d bought a banner ad on a page that celebrated anal sex. I wrote the code to launch the window and run an ad in it. I’m sorry. Our intentions were good.”
And pop-up advertising was born. Zuckerman, who now works for the Centre for Civic Media at MIT, bemoans the current ad-supported state of the web. Believing that “advertising is the original sin of the web” and that “the fallen state of our Internet is a direct, if unintentional, consequence of choosing advertising as the default model to support online content and services.”
If Internet browsers didn't make a good attempt at keeping them at bay as they do now, they would certainly be very very bad.

Even as a foreigner... It's would have, would have, would have...
Classical case of "If [software] gets on your nerves, get [anti-software] to get rid of it.".
Just get adblock if you want to get rid of pop ups
And my adblock just failed to block a youtube banner ad.
My ad-block stopped blocking ads on pornhub for a while. That was not a fun time. I did not need to know about hot local grannies in my local area. Fixed itself now though, so I'm ad free.
Who doesn't have scripts these days that block pop ups?
If it wasn't for this man, I wouldn't have known that my computer was infected.

These are not pop-up ads, they're just normal ads.

How can you possibly say that with a straight face while having a laptop that looks like this?

I haven't seen a pop-up ad since like, 2005.
