External links go through redirectingat.com
I've been wanting to make a thread on this for a while but I thought I might look like a dumbass. WTF is this shit gazza?
Ok... is that it?
It might be used to help keep track of what sites are linked to most on facepunch.
tbh i thought it was a shock site or i'd been rick roll'd the first few times i saw it :v:
It's skimlinks, I'm making money from your links, suckers.
Here's the snippet of code in the site's html that loads in Redirectingat stuff:
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://facepunchcom.skimlinks.com/api/skimlinks.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> var skimlinks_pub_id = '629X1198'; skimlinks(); </script>
[editline]02:44PM[/editline]
It's skimlinks, I'm making money from your links, suckers.
This too I guess
It's skimlinks, I'm making money from your links, suckers.
Everyone, stop linking!
Now why can't more sites use skimlinks, it doesn't annoy the user at all and has no adware/spyware but makes the site owner money.
Yeah it's actually pretty awesome.
Crafty
Now why can't more sites use skimlinks, it doesn't annoy the user at all and has no adware/spyware but makes the site owner money.
Not much though.. I've made £20 in a week.
How do they work though? Why do you get paid just to use a redirect?
This sucks. What if Facepunch effect happens? I don't want to dig the source code for every link on FP.
why does it pay you to redirect like that? It's not like we're seeing any ads or something
Not much though.. I've made £20 in a week.
Considering how many outgoing links are on facepunch, that's not a lot.
It's skimlinks, I'm making money from your links, suckers.
Too bad noscript blocks skimlinks (as well as adblock plus.) Good luck with your $0 income.
I don't like this redirecting stuff, it takes longer to load the page in the link.
Not much though.. I've made £20 in a week.
£20 a week is a lot of money too someone like me :C
It's annoying as fuck because now it takes forever to redirect.
This stuff partially broke my browser for me. I have to right click and select new tab on the link below stuff in media tags now. If I middle click it still ends up in the tab I'm currently in. That's what I get for being in the developer channel of Google Chrome I guess... :sigh: But it only happens on those links. Otherwise it's fine.
why does it pay you to redirect like that? It's not like we're seeing any ads or something
I wanted to ask the exact same question.
Not much though.. I've made £20 in a week.
Still, it's money. Maybe if there's a huge influx of linking the servers will become price-neutral.
any way that I can disable the redirection cos it occasionally times out [editline]11:53PM[/editline] nevermind, disabled it through ad block plus
I got noscript, so no more of this redirect lag bullshit
Not much though.. I've made £20 in a week.
well if you don't want it you can always wire it to my account my account number is 123456789
Hey faggot the least you could do is let this go, he's running this at his own expense.
Hey faggot the least you could do is let this go, he's running this at his own expense.
not really, google ads probably pays for the hosting of the forum
New idea ! Give out Garrys mod to random users on steam with that 20 dollars .
Apparently only works when linking to places where you buy stuff. (I.E. The HW&SW section is probably making most of the money.)
