An elderly woman was removed from a chair that her skin had molded to after reportedly sitting in the same spot for almost a year. The 75-year-old Ohio woman was rescued by paramedics on Thursday after a church volunteer, who’d been delivering food to the woman for the past ten years, called authorities to the home, according to reports. Read: See This Dad's Incredible Transformation After Losing 300 Pounds and Having Excess Skin Removed The volunteer said the woman was not “acting herself” and that he had not seen her anywhere but in her chair since July of 2016. According to a police report, the odor in the home was so strong that it reached all the way to the front sidewalk; however, the volunteer claimed that the home always smelled that way. Police reportedly had to wear haz-mat suits into the Springfield home and found the elderly woman surrounded by feces and urine.
https://www.yahoo.com/news/police-75-old-woman-molded-174100768.html
Police said the woman screamed in pain as she was removed from her chair because the “bones in her body were breaking as EMS tried to carry her out of the house."
:ohno:
I... Thought that was just a cartoon joke, jesus.
How did the volunteer not notice the feces? Glad they contacted the authorities at least
I'm glad there's no media of this. That sounds top tier in the list of horrific sights.
My girlfriend recently started as an EMT and her first call was to visit an overweight person who had done this for just a week and she said it was the worst experience of her life, I can only imagine what it smelled like after sitting there for a year.
had not seen her anywhere but in her chair since July of 2016.
That isn't a year
That's awful. I work as a home nurse, so I have some experience with people that do nothing but sit all day. Hint; sitting sores are a real thing and if left unchecked the wound cavity will grow large enough to put your entire fist in. I've seen it, it's horrible

I feel awful for anyone in a situation where they develop one.

He's told me shit like this is surprisingly very common. Usually they're molded there after staying innhe same spot for a month or so. It's pretty gnarly.
how the fuck do you stay seated for that long? like just ideally I'd fall out of my chair if I couldn't get up at that point
Fucking horrifying.
this is why everyone neeeds grandchildren

Just sitting like that, staring into space, for a long time. Makes you wonder what they are thinking about, if they are. I can imagine that if these kind of elderly lived alone, they would end up like the woman in the article.

An exercise science major I was chatting with told me about their experiences attempting to "train" people that are so immobile and overweight, they barely have enough strength to simply move their forearm side to side. How many thousands or millions of people like that possibly exist is crazy to think about that. I still am having a hard time picturing how all the piss and poop was overseen, for so long too!

The mental illness is obvious in this case, so excreting and sleeping are out of the way. But how the fuck did she eat? For her to be molded to the chair, she mustn't have moved in very long periods of time (article says between 6 months and a year). So either the chair moved somehow, or all her food must've been at arm's reach. If the volunteer set it up to said distance, it's impossible that he didn't notice even once the overhelming smell of shit, stickiness of the floor...
That's some Resident Evil 7 shit right there.
I read a story that went something just like this years ago on 4chan, except it was also specified that the woman was morbidly obese and that they had to break down the doors to get her out of the building. I could never tell if it was real or not, but I guess it was.

I mean I guess the food deliveries were frequent for her to keep living, but it still doesn't make much sense as to how the terrible odors were basically shrugged off because:
...the volunteer claimed that the home always smelled that way.
I mean wouldn't the lady herself possibly complain? It's possible that wasn't an option, and this lady was severely disabled, but I still am imagining so many potential scenarios where the issue wouldn't have been able to go on for so long.
look im... really lazy
did you post this from a chair by any chance
How did the volunteer not notice the feces? Glad they contacted the authorities at least
There's no way someone didn't see it. Not if this lady survived over six months in this one spot without moving. Someone in this story is a liar, and I think it's the volunteer. Probably called 911 because they just couldn't handle being responsible for this lady anymore.
Suppose it went from "not my problem" to "I don't think this is anyone else's problem either".
Either way, letting it go on for six months is criminal neglect at best imo. How can you look at someone in this state every week for six months and not do something earlier. It's disgusting tbh. I'm glad they did something eventually but they should have done it far sooner.
I mean wouldn't the lady herself possibly complain?
If she's not in her right mind I highly doubt she'd complain about the smell too much, especially if she just got used to it over time.

That's how you become used to the smell of shit and piss. Believe me, when you're are literally bathed in it for weeks at a time you not longer realize how bad you a smell.
I don't understand how the volunteer wasn't alarmed after the 4th or so time they delivered food and saw her sit in the same place with feces around her. The claim that "the house always smelled like feces" is kind of weak to me, sounds like they are trying to detach themselves from blame in the situation. So horrible, take care of the elderly, people.
