Mike Pence took a break from government transition work Friday night to attend a Broadway performance of Hamilton, but the musical ended with the cast directly addressing the vice president-elect and asking him to “work on behalf of all of us.”
It seemed to be a tense outing from the get-go for the Indiana governor, who received a tepid welcome at the New York theater where witnesses said Pence was booed as he entered and walked toward his seat.
Then at the close of the musical, with the entire cast assembled on stage, Pence was addressed directly by a member of the cast.

Trump also came to his defence
I feel like you shouldn't be punished for wanting to see a play
I feel like you shouldn't be punished for wanting to see a play
Had more to do with him being Mike Pence than going to a play.
APOLOGIZE.
Though really, I think they should have just left him be. Regardless of what you think of him, nobody really deserves to be publicly lectured. It's just bad practice.

You're right, people like Mike Pence should be punished for all the awful shit they've done, not watching a play
this is pretty low tbh...
this is pretty low tbh...
Not the worst time a politician has had at a play.
they booed him because he's an awful man in a position of great power
Not the worst time a politician has had at a play.
politicians have been killed while watching plays, heck...
Belgium's independence revolution started in a play...

booing someone is nothing compared to advocating torture.
"I think people should be allowed to send their kids to torture sessions"
"I don't like that you think that, that's pretty awful actually, BOO"
"WOW HOW DID THE DISCOURSE GET THIS UGLY"
When one holds a well known position, such as being part of the face of a country, it's wise to consider your reception in various areas and consider where you go based on such.

i think the audience booing is quite petty. the actor, on the other hand, is not in the wrong at all

on the other hand trump keeps saying he wants to bring the country together, be transparent and not corrupt yet he still hasnt released his taxes, done away with his business conflicts, brought in several well documented racists and xenophobes into high ranking positions and his ban on lobbiests while great spin does also prevent legitimate lobbiests from civil rights groups from bringing up these issues
That actor did an abosolute great job with that speech to Pence.
The audience were acting like cringey petty children and makes it harder for protesters like myself to be taken seriously.

I can't think of any "American" deserving this treatment more, than maybe the WBC or KKK. It's one thing to be anti-gay, it's another thing to actively suppress and torture trans and gay people which many times leads to suicide. As well as that, also causing an HIV epidemic by defunding planned parenthood (I may not be getting this one right, but he defunded something). If he wasn't with his family, he is totally fair game. Fuck him.

I wouldn't participate, but I would smile.

oh go fuck yourself trump
it was a polite speech and the actor even called for people to stop booing
Well considering one of the biggest themes of Hamilton is that America is an incredibly diverse place that thrives off the hard work that immigrants put into our country, no shit he was gonna be unwelcome there.

lmao Lin Manuel Miranda basically called Trump a piece of shit on SNL, I don't think the cast is going to back down

Theres a difference between a public political stance, running for office on that stance and meddling with peoples private lives.
This was clearly his private life. booing and calling him out crosses a line... Its uncivilised.

That was actually very cordial, seems way overblown.

pretty hard for it to be private in such a public environment such as a full fucking theatre
If you run for the presidency and win I think your private life is basically over.
I'm from Indiana, don't like Pence, but this was 100% unprofessional and rude. Your there to do your play and entertain your guest, your political stance or views should not come in the way of your job that it upsets the whole audience. It's not professional, if you have something to say, wait after the play and address him personally or, not at all.
EDIT:
As some users pointed out, the context of the play, i didnt think about it in that angle so good point.

they waited til the play was over tho
I can't really blame people for booing, we're talking about accepting others and hearing out the opinions of others, but just hear some of his opinions. As much as I'd love to preach acceptance and understanding, I'm not a 'liberal', I'm just a person who has many opinions that happen to be liberal. In reality, I believe that some things just aren't OK and shouldn't be allowed to even be suggested: conversation therapy is one of them.
As for if it's OK to ruin his evening like this, well whatever, their freedom to do so and his freedom to tell them to fuck right off. If he puts himself out there, especially being as controversial as he is he should probably be expecting backlash.
tl;dr
I understand that we should be accepting, but I'm not 100% convinced that's a reasonable thing to ask of us when it comes to racists, homophobes, misogynists and other bigots.

it's a story about alexander hamilton, one of our founding fathers, which as an aside has also been praised for it's diversity of the cast. it's about as political as plays can fucking get, so i think they have a right or two to freely speak their minds as a cast.
they waited til the play was over tho
they addressed him in front of the whole audience tho

Oh and this, the cast were the opposite of rude, they basically said "yeah we disagree, but enjoy the play and we hope you consider our perspectives too" it was the audience that were rude and tbh they're under no obligation not to be.

Thanks for electing a man who cant even see the irony in him wanting a safe space for his supporters when trying to make it legal to sue papers for publishing the truth, America.
