Longtime "American Idol" judge Simon Cowell said he'll be leaving the popular Fox talent show at the end of the season, the network announced Monday at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena, California.
Cowell's popular U.K. talent show, "The X Factor," will be coming to the United States in 2011 with the acerbic critic in tow, according to Fox.
"I want to leave 'Idol' this year bigger and better than it was in the past," Cowell said at the TCA tour Monday.
Cowell will be both executive producer and judge on "The X Factor."
"I'm thrilled that we have put a date on the launch of the U.S. version of 'The X Factor,' and delighted to be continuing to work with Fox," said Cowell in a statement. "We have a fantastic relationship, a great team and are all very excited about this."

Oh man am I excited for these puns!
I'd much rather he left X Factor due to the UK Christmas chart incident.
like anyone on face punch gives a shit about American idol
Well, he was half the reason to watch American Idol.
I promise you that his replacement won't be half as funny like when Simon tears into some shitty singer. Darn :(
He's the only reason I've watched American Idol.
And thus begins the end of American Idol's tyrannical domination of spring prime time programming.
He was the only reason that show was worth watching, and even then I didn't watch it.
In Soviet Russia, Idol leave YOU!
'bout time somebody cleaned up that place!
Rage Quit.
Oh no, not Simon Cowell! He is the only reason 75% of Americans watch American Idol in the first place. Without him, there is absolutely no personality on that show.
Not that I ever liked American Idol, but Simon was the only thing that made the show half-enjoyable for me (that and the idiotic antics of many singers).
Hold on, wait a minute: Simon's getting replaced by Ellen DeGeneres? What the fuck is wrong with those people?

American Idol is going to get cancelled next season, just watch and see.

If you folks in the States think American Idol is irritating, you haven't seen anything yet.

Ellen is replacing Paula Abdul.
This upcoming season that will air will have Simon, Ellen, Randy, and Kara. Simon will be leaving after this one airs.
That being said, the two who were made fun of the most was Simon and Paula. After that, it'll be only Randy and he's pretty much "Yo dawg _____".
At least he can be used as an idol for other judges.
edit: shut the fuck up that was the best pun i could think of ok

You care about neither of them and yet you had been forced to hear everything about them against your will during their particular spotlight moments.
