WHEATLAND, Wyo. - Tyson Foods says it's suspending purchases from a pig farm in Wyoming after undercover video taken by the Humane Society of the United States showed animal abuse at the operation.
The video, taken at Wyoming Premium Farms in Wheatland in April, shows employees abusing piglets and sows.
Tyson Foods initially said it had no connection to the farm, but then acknowledged it bought some sows from there.
The Humane Society's video, which was captured in just 27 days, showed pigs living in gestation cages that allow no room for the animals. Workers strike and hit the animals with their fists and kick full-grown pigs and piglets in the video.
The co-owner and manager of the farm, Doug DeRouchey, told 9NEWS the abuse would not be tolerated and he expected some employees to be fired over the video.
The Humane Society told 9NEWS that the Platte County, Wyo. Sheriff's Office is investigating the farm.
I live in the town, it's very small, I recognize mostly everyone in the video. It's disgusting to think that this happened a mile away from me.
This is only the thousandth such undercover slaughterhouse video.
I wish the same thing would happen to those hurting them, I don't care that they're humans, pain is pain
Just watching the intro to that video was enough for me..

It's just odd to see people who I thought were friendly, do things like this.
"I'm a fucking terrible person, and I take out my many issues on animals!"
When I was a kid, I wanted to buy a farm, buy some of these animals from the Slaughter Houses, and have them live on my farm. I should do that.
had to turn the sappy music off halfway through. it was doing its job

Human psychology does interesting things when you put people into institutions.
There are a lot of books on the subject, many focusing on Nazi Germany. You can turn an otherwise normal man into a monster by exposing him to the right setting for long enough.
I actually wanted to cry while watching that :c
This made me sick to my stomach.
It's okay guys, PETA is working hard to prevent these atrocities from occuring on our soil!

I really hate the treatment animals get in factory farms. I'll be the first to tell you that I love meat but I hate to see this shit. There really needs to be more pressure on these places.
Pigs are relatively smart too, makes you feel awful
I'm sorry but I would go into a full blown rage if I ever witnessed that. I hope those workers get fired, and in the process learn to not be such cruel heartless fucks.
[sp]I'm trying not to say that I would want to beat the shit out of the people that were torturing these pigs.[/sp]
It's really sad that humans are so often cruel to living things they have power over.

Yes, it's not like it would increase the price of meat, they're going out of their way to hurt the pigs.

Ha, what a load of shit.

Seriously, how could you do that shit to one of these? That was horrible.
ugh fucking hell.
this puts me off eating in general.
This is probably the way most factory farms are. It's a shitty job that hires shitty people and probably pays them shitty wages. As long as they are producing revenue, management is never going to care what they do. The video will generate some lip service and maybe a couple of token firings, but will change nothing. We want our cheap supermarket meat and don't really care what happens to obtain it, as long as we can pay our money and not have to participate.
fuck i hate assholes like this so much
We want our cheap supermarket meat
not me
I've watched plenty of awful shit on the internet, but I can never watch videos like these all the way through
People piss me off

If I had the option of paying 5-10 dollars more for meat I know wasn't abused I'd buy it every time over the other. Sort of like the "Cageless" chicken eggs. I'll go out of my way to buy them over the others. I don't know of any meat distributor that sells meat on the fact that it was "open range" or something not confined to these death-camp like conditions.

that is absolutely barbaric
try and remember that we are in the 21st century here
This is why I've seen a lot of people choose to stop eating meat. Even if you buy the so called "organic" stuff, it's still basically just as bad in terms of treatment of the animals.
dear god i cannot finish that video
i am nearly in tears

The problem is that there are a lot of poor people who would have no choice but to get the cheap stuff.
