A confused driver has ended up trapping his car on the steps of a Paris metro station, after mistaking it for the entrance to an underground car park.
"There's a sign saying 'Haussmann Parking' right in front... I made a mistake," the driver - identified only as Johan - told the AFP news agency.
The 26-year-old managed to brake in time to stop the vehicle, leaving the back wheels sticking out.
No-one was hurt in the incident, which immediately drew a crowd of onlookers.
Many took pictures of the car - a Dacia Duster - stranded on the stairs at the Chaussee d'Antin-La Fayette metro station.
The driver was later asked by French police to do an alcohol test, which he passed.
A member of staff at a local restaurant was quoted by AFP as saying that a similar incident took place at the site about five years ago.
Ladies and gentlemen, WE HAVE A WINNER!
nailed it
Can't really blame him, if you see a sign that says "Parking" over what appears to be a tunnel...
That would have been sooo embarrassing.
He seriously couldn't have backed up? It looks like the car still has grip.
They should put some pillars or a barriers near the entrance next time. It really does looked like a car park entrance

An entrance smack on the curb?

That looks like a really flat curb.
The vehicle's undercarriage appears to be extremely close to the stairs. Moving the vehicle in reverse will likely result in damage.
if the driver was stupid enough to put his car onto a staircase, i don't think he is smart enough to know what an "undercarriage" is.
Can't really blame him, if you see a sign that says "Parking" over what appears to be a tunnel...
True, but all car park tunnels i've ever seen have been 2 lanes wide and on the actual road, not on the pavement.
Plus you wouldn't had see there were stairs if you were in the driver's seat.

Because you've never been confused and done something really stupid right?

Just because he made a mistake doesn't mean he's stupid :(
