microsoft is also having a windows 10 xbox conference on the 25th, interesting...
Steam on Xbox? That doesn't sound well together.

Maybe it's for the Vive release? I've no idea if Microsoft are working on a VR headset.

So it's not two great tastes that taste great together?
That's unfortunate.

I love potatoes and I love cheese, but I hate cheesy potatoes.
That's an interesting development. Wonder what's going to come out of it, beyond Steam integration? Integrating Steam into Xbox seems like an obvious given this info, but that alone seemingly would not warrant a subdomain entirely because of that.
I thought I saw somewhere that MS was pushing for better compatibility / cross platform stuff between Xbox and Windows, so it would only make sense for Steam to be a big part of that.
Half Life 3 confirmed to be a Xbox exclusive
Seems more like it would be integrating the Xbox brand onto PC in a tighter way, and rather than going the origin route they're doing something with Steam. their digital platform on the xbox one is the xbox one, like when someone buys a game on da xbone & gets a free copy on pc, they just want them to be playing on Windows 10, doesn't matter how it's delivered, right?
It would be an interesting twist, considering valve made their own os to escape Microsoft
Maybe it's for the Vive release? I've no idea if Microsoft are working on a VR headset.
doubt it, microsoft has a partnership with Oculus
It would be an interesting twist, considering valve made their own os to escape Microsoft
I wouldn't say escape, it's just easier and less hassle to throw linux on to some steam boxes rather than make a deal with microsoft. especially something that was supposed to nudge into the #consolezone
I really doubt anything will come from this.

considering portal 2 had cross-platform multiplayer this easily could be the case
It's happening? Halo on pc once again?
oh god please be true, i was hoping microsoft wouldn't try to push their own distribution service when they said xbox and pc games are going to be merging, i would rather be able to buy a game for the xbox and have it on steam too

Also the vast majority of PC games are for windows so it makes double sense for them to begin pushing for Windows since gaming is something that mac and linux will never be able to catch up to Windows on that
Weren't they trying to get mods for fallout4 on xbone? Could be part of it and something bigger

Nah. Bethesda has a plan for that.
Bethesda.net
I have a feeling it might be steam streaming on the Xbox, there was some hints about PC game streaming earlier for it.
I could totally see Halo 5 for Windows 10 and Team Fortress and Counter Strike for XB1. All of them could have cross-platform play since Xbox has more of a free area when it comes to game updates. Note how TF2 360 had 3 updates compared to 550+.

I think with how much MS is pushing Xbone and Windows integration, this is most likely integration for that in the Steam client. Things like cross-system saves, and cross-system purchases.

FPS games with cross-platform play could never and have never worked.
They've had this domain for awhile now, though
This would actually be kind of nice, if it's basically the same thing the PS4 has.

Except it was on PS3 and had a vast library of just one game.
As I mentioned in the other thread, the announcement leaked and it was a join Steam and Xbox support system, with Valve taking over the reigns of Xbox support.
Portal 2 on PS3 lacked a lot of capabilities that the PC offers, and I think CS:GO on PS3 doesn't have Steam support.
I 100% forgot that CS:GO had a console release.
Steam on Xbox? That doesn't sound well together.
If this means that you can buy a game and have access to it on every available platform (buy PC, play on Xbox), that would be godlike of Valve.
Maybe it's for the Vive release? I've no idea if Microsoft are working on a VR headset.
They kinda threw their hat in the ring already for Oculus by bundling their controller with every purchase
Having the xbox subdomain doesn't mean or prove really anything
