This is a thread about my possibly favorite band ever, Van Halen
[WIKIPASTA]
Van Halen is an American rock band formed in Pasadena, California in 1972. They have enjoyed large scale success since the release of their debut album Van Halen (1978). As of 2007, Van Halen has sold 80 million albums worldwide, and have had the most number-one hits on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart. During the 1980s they also had more Billboard Hot 100 hits than any other hard rock or heavy metal band. According to the Recording Industry Association of America, Van Halen is the 19th best-selling band/artist of all time with sales of over 56 million albums in the U.S., and is one of five rock bands that have had two albums sell more than 10 million copies in the U.S. In 2008 they became one of the best paid live acts in the world, over a decade after performing the same feat in the early eighties in regards to their huge payout for headlining the US festival. In 1999, the RIAA certified Van Halen diamond, for ten million U.S. sales. Van Halen were one of the forerunners to the glam metal bands of the 1980s.
In addition to being recognized for success, the band is known for the drama surrounding the exits of former members. The (multiple) exits of singers David Lee Roth and Sammy Hagar were surrounded in controversy and mass press coverage with various contrasting press statements between them and the band. More recently, Michael Anthony left the band for controversial reasons. Following their 2004 concert tour the band was on a hiatus from the public until September 2006, when new bassist Wolfgang Van Halen's place was confirmed and Roth-reunion rumors began to re-surface coinciding with the band's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction on March 12, 2007. After years of speculation, Van Halen began a tour with Roth in late 2007 across North America. The tour continued into 2008. An album was proposed to follow. Along with this, a live tour DVD was announced at their May 13, 2008 concert at the Izod Center that would contain recordings from several performances on their current tour.

BAND MEMBERS:
Eddie Van Halen

Guitarist and founding member of Van Halen, Eddie Van Halen is widely considered to be an innovative legend at guitar, or maybe those are just my personal beliefs.
He was born in Amsterdam in 1955 and moved to Nijmegen, Netherlands shortly afterwords. In 1962, at 7 years old, he relocated to Pasadena, California where he learned drums, but soon traded with his brother Alex for guitar.
Alex Van Halen

Drummer and founding member of Van Halen, Alex is known for his aggressive drum style and skills. Born in Nijmegen, Netherlands in 1953, relocated to Pasadena, California in 1962, where he learned to play guitar but soon traded with his brother Eddie for drums.
David Lee Roth

David Lee Roth was born in 1954, and moved to Pasadena in his teens. He is known for his deep vocals and loose-cannon personality.
David Lee Roth comes from a family of Jewish doctors, save for his uncle Manny, who owned the Cafe Wha? in the 1960s, frequented by famous people such as Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix. Roth got a taste for music from the get go, having hung out at Cafe Wha? most of his childhood. In 1973, Roth joined Van Halen after lending the Van Halen brothers his PA system after an audition.
Michael Anthony

Michael was born in 1952 in Chicago, but not much else is known besides that. He had a promising career in baseball, he also was proficient at long jump and played in a marching band. While attending Pasadena City College, Michael met Alex, and the Van Halen brothers decided to audition Michael as a bassist for Van Halen.

I tried learning Runnin' With The Devil on bass, but I ended up crying because it was too hard. :frown:
i dont get them at all
i tried listening to 1984 last week, and it did nothing for me
You got the lineup wrong, Michael Anthony isn't the bassist anymore, Wolfgang Van Halen is.

"Let's see what the bands are like, eh?"
*cut to DLR frolicking with a cape*
Van Halen is awesome sweet ass guitarist none the less. Could listen to him jam with himself for countless of hours. Ain't talking 'bout love got one of the most bad ass sounding riffs, it's sounds so harsh and really cuts through your ear when you got some nice earphones !
So can someone clarify something for me? Who sings Me Wise Magic? Sammy or DLR? There are parts that sound like Sammy and other like DLR XD
