It's still amazing how this game looks like an early 8th gen game despite coming out in 2007.

That was to be expected to be honest. When this game out, it was leaps and bounds ahead in terms of its graphics. Many people couldn't run this game at full settings until several years after it came out, and even then that might not have been at 60fps or higher. The whole "but can it run Crysis?" meme is still sometimes used today.
I remember that the engine had a way of recording video in such a way that it would render every frame, then at the end it would play it all at 60fps. Looking at the videos in 2007 was like watching a computer animated movie
It's damn shame that the only other game in existence where you could chop trees like this is Warhead.
What a huge amount of wasted potential the Crysis trilogy was. The sequels are the very definition of dumbed down

Still, I recall that it actually ran quite well as long as you weren't trying to max it out. It looked great even on medium settings too.
Crysis 1 had some of the wonkiest physics ever. I can’t recall how many times I’ve died by simply walking into a barrel or simply dying when colliding with a (stopped) truck.

Crysis was never a game that really knew what people wanted. ie absolutely no one actually enjoyed fighting aliens yet they keep making that a large part of the games. Making the aliens humanoid barely helped either, they still just felt like shitty aliens.

Trust me with the amount of times I still see the 'but can it Crysis?' meme we may as well be in 2007
TBH when you really look at the details, Crysis looks very dated.
I wouldn't just throw everything onto their technical prowess, but also the well-managed aesthetics, as for why it still looks fantastic nowadays.

I really liked the aliens v:v:v

The alien fights were good set pieces but that's only good for the first playthrough.
Noah Gervais actually made a really good video explaining the issues with Crysis as a series, and also part of the reason why the first game is the way it is.

Of course that's if you can stomach 60 minutes of critical analysis.

I thought fighting the aliens was pretty fun. But I also haven't played the game all the way through since like 2011.
Crysis and Far Cry 2 will always be my favourite mixed at best games. So much potential, so little of it realized.

FC2 hurt the most because there's only one thing wrong with it, the way you encounter enemies, and it drags down the whole game.

I really wish there was another game like Far Cry 2, just better. I like FC2 more than the rest of the series ('cept FC1, but FC1 is pretty different anyways) because of the setting and tone. I want a serious/mostly serious fps where you play as a mercenary taking jobs in some wartorn country.
I didn't like FC3 because of the story and general tone of the game (haven't played 4, 5 looks rather interesting though because of the setting and being a government man and all)

FC2 does open world in an incredibly refreshing and unique way while being insanely boring and repetitive at the same time
it'd be amazing to just see FC's format but done in a way that feels like you're doing more than choirs and fighting the same exact outpost for the 2000th time
Man Crysis was such a big franchise. Now it's a pile of rubish
Liking crytek on facebook is painful because the comments are full of people with broken english demanding crysis 4
Why? WHY!?!
Can't forget this lil' gem too.

I love it when games add cheeky shit like this. It adds a certain little dash of character to the game, they could have simply put an error prompt or just a boring old waypoint but they didn't.
Company of Heroes did something similar to this - some of these lines are gold. :v:

I remember Crysis having really high quality foliage that I haven't seen since then. Like it actually moved realistically when you walked into it. I spent 5 minutes just walking back and forth through bushes :v:
I remember playing Crysis when it came out on my Radeon X1600. It ran like shit on the lowest settings but it's still one of the best gaming experiences I've ever had. Crysis 2 was a massive disappointement and while Crysis 3 was much better than 2 it still doesn't even come close to the greatness of the first game. Even Crysis 1's multiplayer mode was interesting. Anyone remember Crysis Wars?

I see a crysis/crytek thread! Fuck crytek. Here's a conversation i had with a friend of mine few months ago, i retracted some information.
"I'm happy to tell the full story, just need a keyboard first
so long as no one is really implicated, so I'll avoid names.
So, community mangers basically had no power except for (very charming guy) ****** who was the senior community manager who now works at the League of Legend devs as a higher ranking guy(edited)
I have to thank him since my plane ticket was the most expensive.
And despite a 1000 euro restaurant bill, he convinced HR
When I was with the group of guys
Who naturally said my flight fare was the reason we'd starve
But that was late 2011, people were starting to abandon ship (wisely)
I found Crysis 3 in some network folders by accident (on purpose really) on my trip (***** was like, I'm not sure you're meant to see that), had a great time for free in Frankfurt(edited)
After that, all I heard from everyone was not positive
lots leaving for CIG to work on Star Citizen(edited)
at least a dozen whom I met for a cool, free dinner
***** was such a nice guy
But alas, Cevat (Yerli, CEO) has a massive ego apparently and directs it how he wants
and has since fucked the company with his decisions whilst Faruk Yerli (according to employees) was aware but had no control
I knew business management was bad when I was a moderator but it got so much worse
Alas, sadly what seems to be the end of Crytek
though fyi, shh, I got told they were trying to make a Crysis 4 at some stage
We tried for years to get through to them to support Crysis/Crysis Wars
but none of that got through
nor any attempts at modding docs
But the community mangers weren't to blame
The staff went on a mass protest and Cevat personally fired ******(edited)
(also heard he had a lawsuit against them for the employment termination which he won)"
Fuck Crytek for ruining the series and mistreating people.

nobody could run it because crysis thematically must have dogshit optimization

To be fair, it offers a lot of graphical options that games still lack today, stuff like per-object motion blur (aka the only non-garbage kind of motion blur).

Crysis 2 is one of my biggest preorder regrets.

Ironically the only other game I can think of that has it is the 2017 version of Turok 2, an N64 game.
