[hd]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DKm-UaIw0Po[/hd] I'm definitely looking forward to this game
So we were under da sea all the time? Or just the Lambda Complex? Regardless, there's bound to be a containment breach somewhere.
that dialogue was so wooden

I hate how hyped these videos are getting me. So many teasers and I still have no fucking clue what's happening
I hate how hyped these videos are getting me. So many teasers and I still have no fucking clue what's happening
It's great the less we no yet more we see the BETTER I want to blindly plunge into this game
literally avoiding any more trailers. all i know is it's horror and it's obviously in part inspired by SCP stuff
I thought this was going to be set in space, not underwater. That's even better since underwater is even scarier
swimming controls and scary shit make for a really bad time looking forward to it!
imagine swimming away from something at the speed of slow and you can't see it but you can hear it rounding each corner just behind you 2spoopy
I hate how hyped these videos are getting me. So many teasers and I still have no fucking clue what's happening
I think I kiiinda get what was going on in Theta now after [sp]the trailer with the brains[/sp]
Goddamn this looks so good
literally avoiding any more trailers. all i know is it's horror and it's obviously in part inspired by SCP stuff
That's like if there was a new Battlefield game and saying "all i know is its a shooter and its obviously inspired by call of duty stuff" It's really far fetched to say Soma and SCP are that similar, and we haven't even got the chance to even play it yet.
I think I kiiinda get what was going on in Theta now after [sp]snip[/sp]
Mind explaining because I sure dont

But the idea of an underground/underwater set of facilities with uniformed personnel who test and seem to have a huge stockpile of items that don't conform to reality seems a little specific to not have been inspired by what is an increasingly popular website.
Okay, so I was really interested by these videos especially the Vivarium one. I did a little bit of research and the entire night I felt a bit creeped out and I have no idea why I was kind of scared :c. The game just seems to do psychological stuff mostly and doesn't even have any super creepy/horrifying creatures so far. Maybe I'm just a huge pussy.

It could have been inspired by Bioshock and not SCP at all for all you know. It seems pretty damn original to me.
The "secret scientific organization where things go wrong" trope isn't exactly new. Comparing it to SCP is pointless. Might as well compare it to Stargate or something.
guess we have to agree to disagree, i just get massive vibes from it
guess we have to agree to disagree, i just get massive vibes from it
SCP is all about finding the supernatural and unexplained and keeping them locked away. Kind of like X-Files mixed with Warehouse 13. SOMA seems to be more about research most would deem unethical or dangerous, obviously shit goes wrong. I see more of a Half-Life 1 vibe from it honestly. Both are great concepts and would make cool games. SOMA seems to be a more feasible project to pull off right though.

Genius idea actually. "In Amnesia The Dark Descent, the most people seem to be scared of that water part the most." "Well lets just make our new game one big water level!" :v:
I think the SCP comparison is valide, if only because the "Item #blahblah" thing and the fact that it seems to be "tests" on really fucking weird objects. Obviously the rest of the universe is completely different, probably. Who knows the premise behind the objects? I think that with the prevalence of the anomalous items in the trailers that it's a fair comparison in that respect.
I fucking hate water in games, especially when its really deep. Devs always have to put scary shit in the water to scare me :[
reminds me a lot of the swapper
Mind explaining because I sure dont
Well, assuming [sp]brain experiments[/sp] is a main thing in the game, [sp]I'd guess people would kill themselves as a result of it[/sp] [editline];[/editline] [sp]And maybe the man has access to Stromire's (I think that was that name) brain[/sp]
that fucking monster at the end.... that thing can literally fuck itself. Like the dev said, things that deeply unnerve someone are the best. Like the fast zombies in hl2. You have a skinless corpse chasing after you faster than you can run, screaming at you. That kind of shit kept me up, it just fucked with me mentally.

~1:49 - There is some distortion in the player's view similar to the distortion in the title card at the end of the SOMA trailers. 2:11 - The player appears to enter a computer, possibly. It cuts off too soon to really show anything. 3:44 - There is a screen with the names of what appear to be different sections of the labs, or whatever it is the game takes place in: Upsilon, Theta, Lambda, and Omicron. Three of those places have been featured in trailers so far. We've yet to see Omicron. [sp]This shot also has another character addressing the player as Simon.[/sp] 4:05 - It looks like you get to use some kind of tool in the game at some point. 4:27 - The distortion in the player's view starts going crazy, it's just hard to tell because he's underwater. Throughout the gameplay in that video, the player is running around underwater, and doesn't have anything visually indicating that he's wearing a suit. This could be because of the game being being incomplete, but it could give some insight as to who the character is that you play as. All of this is very interesting. While I want to know what happens, I really don't want to know anything until I actually play it. But it seems like Frictional might be outdoing themselves with this one. Possibly.
