• Small fisher town in South Korea suddenly turned into the holy town of Pokemon (Go)
There's a lovely little seaside town in South Korea called Sokcho, about a two-hour bus ride away from Seoul, where you can lay on the beach and have some fried chicken and beer delivered by foot. But this idyllic summer spot is being visited by a new type of tourist: the pokémon master. Besides being a popular getaway, Sokcho is the only place in South Korea country where the popular app works.Pokémon Go isn't available in South Korea because the game uses data from Google Maps, which is restricted by the South Korean government due to security concerns. South Korea is still technically at war with North Korea, and the government has stated that it could release its map data only if Google deletes information on key security locations like military facilities. It's unclear whether the game will ever be made available, but in the meanwhile, South Korean gamers have found a loophole. The rhombus-shaped cells below show the areas that Niantic has labeled in its mapping system as restricted areas, and Sokcho just barely makes it out:
http://www.theverge.com/2016/7/14/12183042/pokemon-go-south-korea-sokcho-holy-land
wonder what pokemon you can find in nk
Isn't there a small town right across the border into North Korea that works with the game too or am I remembering things wrong?
Isn't there a small town right across the border into North Korea that works with the game too or am I remembering things wrong?
Yeah on the DM-zone or a bit further into NK there is a pokemon gym, the screenshot that was supplied with that news post was that people were actually battling around it
wonder what pokemon you can find in nk
Ingress has portals in North Korea and people who were spoofing GPS kept capturing them, so there's Pokestops/Gyms in the same locations [t]http://i.imgur.com/835qWmn.png[/t]
wonder what pokemon you can find in nk
Starving Growlithes, and many MANY Yamasks.
If SK wants to ban Google maps, why the rhombuses? (Rhombi?) Seems a weird shape to use and I'm sure there's more SK territory that doesn't fit into the restricted areas. Seems like a square peg in a round hole to me. Why not just a uniform restriction on all SK territory?
His main would be snorlax
Remember the good old days when he was just a lil' Munchlax? My my, they evolve so quickly these days.
Inspiration for the new region for Gen 8.
Pokemon Go is going to cause NK and SK to resume the war except that the soldiers will defect to their respective pokemon teams and then we will have 3rd Korea.
wonder what pokemon you can find in nk
Oh fuck I caught a malnourished Pikachu.
...why did they release the app in South Korea when most of the country cannot use it?
It isn't released in SK, the players just sideloaded pokemon go.
