http://www.analoghype.com/video-games/ea-is-threatening-to-ban-people-who-want-a-refund-over-sim-city/ edit- bad sensationalist article saying EA was threatening to ban for asking. Read this-
Shitty fucking article I hate that this is spreading around. I'm loathing EA right now because I spent $60 ($40 after the store credit I got for pre-ordering it, which is why I preordered vs waiting) for a game that I've not been able to comfortably play at all since release, but this is simply false shitty reporting that this is spreading around. EA does not ban for asking for refunds on SimCity. They ban you if you force a chargeback on your Origin account, and it's not something that happens with a push of the button, a chargeback causes automatic bans. AKA you SHOULD get a refund through EA and not through your CC company (chargeback) because that way you avoid the auto-ban. AFAIK other companies to the same exact thing. Steam for example last I heard bans your account if you chargeback on them as well. This is because chargebacks cost money and its an "easy" way to try an get free stuff.
It's The War Z all over again
If you did that on steam they would do the same.
It's The War Z all over again
Except Origin can ban your entire game account, not just the forum account. WarZ would just ban you from the forum or the game. This is like asking for a refund and steam banning your whole account. [editline]8th March 2013[/editline]
If you did that on steam they would do the same.
Only if you did a charge back. I've asked for refunds all the time and they only do it once for that account as a one time gift.
Seems harsh
This would also ban you from say, Battlefield 3 Bunch of cunts
On one hand I doubt EA would be this fucking retarded, on the other I never thought they'd make one of the ultimate single player games such a broken online-only shitfest.
Wow, they really don't learn do they?
Surely this isn't legal in various countries?
There is no doubt that you get banned for charge back, but considering people get their entire origin accounts banned for saying something not-positive on the user forums, it's not completely out of the imagination.
I know a guy who was locked out from his entire Origin account (Battlefield, Mass Effect, etc) for a thread where he described his experience with Battlefield 3 after 40 hours (he didn't like it very much). It took him almost 90 days, a lot of arguing, and the threat of a lawsuit to get back into his account. EA banning people for refunds might not be true, but you can't fault people for thinking it might be after shit like that became common place.
It should in no way be legal to ban someone from a product they bought simply for asking for a refund.

EA are a fucking joke
They had similar problems when ME3 was released, banning people from Origin.
The article doesn't go into much detail but am I supposed to understand it that EA bans people who only ask for refunds? Because that's pretty bad. If people chargeback and then get their accounts banned then it's more clear. I'm pretty sure other digital distributors like Steam can/would do the same.
They don't, they ban you for forcing a chargeback from your CC.
I feel betrayed. I can never trust a bit of text from the Internet again.

His fault.
Article is shit and sensationalist, they threated the ban over a chargeback you: I can call my bank and have the refund done that way. Adrian: I can offer to assist you with any trouble shooting issues. you: Why can Amazon users get refunds but I can't? Adrian: That is understandable, but I must inform you that if you choose to dispute it, your account will be banned.
If you did that on steam they would do the same.
That is complete ridiculous to think that's how they would react. They already handled a game with similar hatred and in my opinion, handled it well. Also, Steam and Valve would not risk having their reputation blemished as bad as EA's is and ban people for asking for refunds. Either you haven't read the article or you somehow sympathize with an untouchably large company like EA.

And this my friends, is why you don't pre order games.
Steam has given me a refund before without problem. I had accidentally bought the wrong game to play Garry's mod and I made a support ticket about it. They gave me a refund and linked me to a page that showed all the games I could use to play the game.
You are taking this out of context, these 4 lines happened after he asked support for a refund, not to mention they released a press release saying that they will give refunds (Like any reputable company should)
They were after he asked for a refund. It doesn't change the fact that the bans are in response to chargebacks. EA is still shit for going back on their word, but they aren't banning people over asking for refunds.
