• Surviving Cancer and Living with Possible PTSD

Hello, Facepunch. Before I begin, this is not a troll thread at all. This is serious business and I'd like some respect from those who post in here (I'm sure all of you will be respectful). Okay. It started when I was born. I had to be cut out of the womb for some reason I forget. If I was in there for one more day, I would've died. Seriously. I was born - I think - three months early. Hell of an accomplishment, eh? With this premature birth brought my vision problems (20/100 in my good eye, legally blind in the other) and a growth issue. I have been taking growth hormones (needle form, like how you take blood at the hospital) for about seven or eight years now & will continue until I'm eighteen. I think about a year later I was diagnosed with liver cancer. I almost died but I pulled through. I started noticing a possible case of PTSD (Post-traumatic stress disorder) when I was around fourteen. I was angry, I was stressed constantly, and got pissed over any little thing. That still persists but the stress has went down a whole bunch, thank God. Then I noticed I was staring out into space randomly for a little over a minute. I looked this up on the Internet (Wikipedia, of all things) and found out it was the 'thousand-yard stare'. This is why I "don't pay attention" at times. I also forget what I am doing a lot. I easily forget, in short. Luckily I am still standing after all this; a rough childhood is hell on everyone. tl;dr - I was born prematurely, I survived cancer, I may have Post-traumatic stress disorder, I always forget shit, and I had a rough start. Thanks to those who didn't tl;dr and maybe you may have similar stories about yourselves or friends/family members. Thanks again for reading and God bless you all. ~AI
I think the whole PTSD thing could have been confused with puberty. what do I know.
An inspiration to FPers everywhere. [tab]Also KKF[/tab]
You're lucky to be alive like everyone else then.
You do realize that "PTSD" is little more then Teen Angst induced by Puberty, right?
@ Greeman - Could've been puberty. I dunno. @ smurfy - I guess. And KKF was hell. I ain't going back. @ radioactive - You're right. @ Canuhearme? - It might be teen angst, but I don't know, to be honest. Puberty's done for me, by the way.
I was born - I think - twenty-seven weeks early.
That's like 6 months. No way you were born 6 months early.
Sounds like on hell of a childhood. [editline]07:23PM[/editline]
That's like 6 months. No way you were born 6 months early.
Actually nearly 7.
You know, PTSD can be brought upon by child medical procedures.. Cancer is a pretty big thing.
Avoiding activities, places, thoughts, or feelings that remind you of the trauma Inability to remember important aspects of the trauma Loss of interest in activities and life in general Feeling detached from others and emotionally numb Sense of a limited future (you don’t expect to live a normal life span, get married, have a career) PTSD symptoms of increased arousal Difficulty falling or staying asleep Irritability or outbursts of anger Difficulty concentrating Hypervigilance (on constant “red alert”) Feeling jumpy and easily startled Other common symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder Anger and irritability Guilt, shame, or self-blame Substance abuse Depression and hopelessness Suicidal thoughts and feelings Feeling alienated and alone Feelings of mistrust and betrayal Headaches, stomach problems, chest pain
perhaps if i sympathize for you over the internet your childhood will become less traumatic
Sounds like on hell of a childhood. [editline]07:23PM[/editline] Actually nearly 7.
I wasn't thinking straight when I typed that. Silly me. It was actually four months, I think. Edit'd. -e- It was three, nvm
I know this guy from another forum where he was a Faggot McTrollTroll. I don't remember exactly what he did though, it was a while ago now. [editline]08:25PM[/editline]
I wasn't thinking straight when I typed that. Silly me. It was actually four months, I think. Edit'd.
No
Why 'no'. I was due in June or something but I just had to come out a few months early. And I mean out of the womb. I'm straight. inb4gayjokes
Well you get a hug.
Thank you. I don't expect any pity from people but sympathy is accepted. And going through hell and back made me a better person - as in being a sympathetic, caring person. In all seriousness, I sometimes compare myself to Niko from GTAIV; been through a lot, is sympathetic, and can be violent.
lol cancer
Please no cancer jokes. Just shows how much you care. /sarcasm
Y'know back in Nam...
Speaking my mind, I hate it when I come into threads trying to be helpful and I get completely ignored.
Y'know back in Nam...
Gave you a funny face. Nice one.
Anger and irritability Guilt, shame, or self-blame Substance abuse Depression and hopelessness Suicidal thoughts and feelings Feeling alienated and alone Feelings of mistrust and betrayal Headaches, stomach problems, chest pain
Sums me up all the time, expect for suicidal thoughts. Those're gone but come and go. @ Cypher - I didn't ignore, just didn't see that post. Sorry.
How are you posting on FP if you're almost blind? Text to speech ?
Good thing your Christian, good luck with your life[sp], my grandpa had cancer and he just shot himself a few hours ago[/sp]
Getting pissed at people constantly at 14 doesn't really scream "PTSD" to me.
How are you posting on FP if you're almost blind? Text to speech ?
I can still see, just not well. 20/100 is still good vision in my opinion.
Good thing your Christian, good luck with your life[sp], my grandpa had cancer and he just shot himself a few hours ago[/sp]
Why are you here
I look down on all the people who laugh at the fact that he had cancer. I just can't wait till they wake up one day and have a doctor tell them they have cancer and will probably die. After facing death right in the face, I doubt it be very funny any more.
Good thing your Christian....
I'm Roman-Catholic, same thing. Oh, and no religious debates, please. In hindsight, it was pretty funny (that'll teach me to take part in a eating contest).
