Cancer Study Found E-Cigarettes Affect Cells the Same As Tobacco Smoke
Electronic cigarettes have taken a pounding in the press lately. First there was the revelation that the liquid nicotine in the device is poisonous and potentially deadly if consumed. Then there was the horrifying story of an e-cig exploding in a bar in the UK—not the first time this has happened.
Now to cap it off, one of the first studies to look at the biological effects of the digital nicotine sticks found "striking similarities" between the effect of vaporized e-liquid and tobacco smoke on human cells. Further study is needed, but the similarity suggests vaping could increase the risk of cancer, despite being tobacco-free.
"They may be safer [than tobacco], but our preliminary studies suggest that they may not be benign,” said study author Avrum Spira, a genomics and lung cancer researcher at Boston University. The study was published in Nature and presented at the American Association for Cancer Research annual meeting this week.
"Inhaling particles into lungs is bad."
"News reports something only idiots would find shocking."
Wanna know something great? Nicotine was one of the first poisons man used to kill each other. No fucking shit inhaling it isn't good for you.
Study paid for by Big tobacco
Well, you would expect the same issues you get with inhaling warm gas and nicotine, but you will probably not get all the shit you get when burning a plant.
Is E-cigs totally safe? I don't know probably not.
Is it better than tobacco? Probably.
No shit it's not healthier than not smoking, but hell, what doesn't give you cancer these days.
But lets see, shit load (possibly hundreds) of toxic stuff in a burning cigarette, vs water, PV, VG, nicotine and food flavourings being vaporised.
No shit the liquid is poisonous in high concentrations, that guy whose dog died from eating the bottle? His fault, since all the e liquids ive got are clearly marked as poisonous and have plenty of warning on it about not to swallow or even let it touch your skin. As for the battery exploding? Fault battery and can happen to any device with a battery, including phones. It's called being responsible, put your e juice somewhere safe, and thus, no poisonings.
Actually I retract this satement, I read the actual abstract and I am not completely sure anymore. I will stay neutral on this for now.
I don't smoke and I don't know what kind of chemicals are in the e-cigarette, they could be more or less harmful then a "classic" cigarette.
That said, the classic cigarette works by burning paper and the tobacco, that sounds quite more harmful to breathe burning stuff than the e-cigarte which works with vapor.
Regardless, both have nicotine, right, so that's going to have secondary and harmful effects either way.
I wonder if the e-cigarrete makes your lungs and teeth go yellow/black after years of smoking like the classic cigarette does, probably due to the combustion of tobacco and paper.
All I see here is the "classic" cigarette industry that is about to loose a big portion of the market.
Some governments who overtax cigarettes may be trying to ban it too because if e-cigarettes were to be less harmful,
or nearly harmless then there would be no reason/justification to over tax it as they do with classic cigarettes.
i bet e cigs are gonna end up worse for you than regular good ol fashioned cigarettes at this rate!!
Cigar master race why would you want to inhale the smoke? Jesus Christ how horrifying.

Doesn't the tar do that?

you're not really supposed to inhale the ecig smoke either, only for a thorat hit if you want
you're not really supposed to inhale the ecig smoke either, only for a thorat hit if you want
I'm pretty sure you are supposed to inhale the ecig vapour to be honest, how would I feel the relief if I didn't?
All these drama studies about E-cigs are paid for by the big tobacco companies who fear declining sales.
Of course this shit isn't healthy, but people who smoke E-cigs at least aren't blowing their filthy tar smoke into other people's faces.
My mom bought one of these E-cigs when my brothers girlfriend got pregnant. She doesn't have the willpower to quit smoking, but at least now she can visit them without having to stand outside in the rain every half hour.
Bum puff for life

It also helps you to not stink of smoke, I don't cough when I exercise now, a lot cheaper than smoking and now I don't have to freeze outside before I go to bed for a smoke.

Yes, now you're purely satisfying your nicotine addiction without the nasty side effects that's right.

Yes, now I can start gradually decreasing the amount of nicotine I intake until I eventually no longer need it.

And you couldn't do that with cigarettes?
And you couldn't do that with cigarettes?
Not easily, with this I can decrease it by about 1mg a week

List of things in my current Ejuice: 2.4% Nicotene per ML
water
propylene Glycol (PG)
Vegetable Glycerine (VG)
Flavourings (food based)
and thats it. All in a liquid which is vaporised, not burned, by coming into contect witha hot coil.
As a Ecig user, I've noticed my teeth getting betterwhen I've been on Ecigs.
My mum is really sensitive to smells but with the vapour of the ecig, the most she is going to smell, if she does at all, is the falvourings.
Also they're way fucking cheaper than cigarettes, currently anyway, 1 30ml bottle of ecig fluid, costs me £10 and lasts around 25 days.

Why?
Why?
If you don't smoke, clearly you wouldn't understand the craving for a cigarette. I was on 10 a day any less and I would chew me fingers into oblivion
Why?
Cigarettes don't come with easily controllable, variable nicotine levels to wean yourself off gradually, ecigs do and still maintain the feeling of the hit of a cigarette.
I'm really not trying to troll you or anything I hope I don't come across like that, just curious.
I don't really get why the craving for the e-cig is any different to the craving for a normal one but that seems to be the point you make for how an e-cig helps you reduce nicotine.
When the "craving" is different in the first place clearly the e-cig is not an equivalent substitute to the cigarette in the first place, right?

So basically you reduce the concentration because managing the frequency is too hard.
Seems handy.

But won't you crave for another hit faster that way?

I believe it takes a bit of willpower too as I have a box of tobacco beside me, however since I bought my ecig I haven't had one cigarette but other people I know still smoke tobacco and have an ecig.
It just depends on the person really, it is handy for maintaining your addiction but you need to add a little maths to it
Very handy indeed

Cigarette patches work in much the same way of delivering reducing amounts of nicotene. It's not any different in terms of craving, its just a different method of satisfying it. Weaning yourself off slowly will make you less dependent ont he hit and this lessen your cravings until you finally reach 0, where after a while you may want to still use the ecig to keep your hands busy for a while until you're further used to it. It can also help because it still kinda feels like you're smoking, which is what a lot of people are used to, nicotene patches or gum doesnt help me as well, because i miss the act of smoking, keeping your hands and mouth busy, and the feeling in yuor throat and lungs, which the ecig does emulate somewhat.
Welp, I guess it's nigh time for me to stop smoking :v
Yet no one has anything bad to say about Cigars
obliv·i·ous
Full Definition of OBLIVIOUS
1
: lacking remembrance, memory, or mindful attention
2
: lacking active conscious knowledge or awareness —usually used with of or to
— obliv·i·ous·ly adverb
— obliv·i·ous·ness noun
<the out-of-state motorist claimed to be oblivious of the local speed limit, even though the signs must have been hard to miss>
<The man stated OBLIVIOUS as fuck statements about cigarettes and ecigs>
the point is, its basically a cigarette, minus all of that nasty chemical shit, letting you actually reduce the amount without the extra addictions and pains.
you smoke to relieve the pain of not smoking. That's caused by the heap of chemical additives. You don't have that with ecigs.
Study paid for by Big tobacco
Doesn't Big Tobacco have an interest in E-Cigs? I mean, where does the nicotine come from? As far as I understand, it's extracted from tobacco itself.
I'm pretty sure you are supposed to inhale the ecig vapour to be honest, how would I feel the relief if I didn't?
Nicotine can be absorbed by the mucus membranes in the mouth. Otherwise dip and chew would be pointless.
