The confrontation, captured on cellphone video at Spring Valley High School in Columbia, S.C., has drawn intense criticism on social media, from the school district's Black Parents Association — the student is African-American — and the American Civil Liberties Union of South Carolina, which called the deputy's actions "egregious."

A male student at Spring Valley told NBC News that the girl had ignored requests by the teacher to go to a "discipline office." The officer then entered the classroom and asked if she would go on her own or if he had to make her, according to the student. When the student refused to leave, Lott told NBC affiliate WIS earlier Monday, the officer "was requested to take action." She was told that she was under arrest, but again refused to leave the classroom, Lott told the station. "The video then shows the student resisting and being arrested."

In a statement, the Richland Black Parents Association said they were "heartbroken as this is just another example of the intolerance that continues to be of issue in Richland School District Two particularly with families and children of color."
That cop knows how to get a student out of a desk, I'll give him that.
Eh, fuck her. She didn't want to go willingly, so she got dumped and cuffed. Guy used as much force as was warranted.
Eh, fuck her. She didn't want to go willingly, so she got dumped and cuffed. Guy used as much force as was warranted.
i agree but he did go overboard
parents surprised that their little shit of a teenager was forcibly tossed to the ground for resisting an officer.
A cop throws a teenager around like a ragdoll and ya'll say she deserved it lmao facepunch never change
A cop throws a teenager around like a ragdoll and ya'll say she deserved it lmao facepunch never change
Explain to me what he was supposed to do. Stand there and go, "well, looks like I can't do my job today folks. The girl told me no."?
The student was black, time for some rioting in the streets.
A cop throws a teenager around like a ragdoll and ya'll say she deserved it lmao facepunch never change
it's borderline impossible to find empathy here, just a disturbing amount of edginess
There are not very many ways to get someone out of a school desk when they resist arrest. Cop didn't really have a choice if he wanted to do his job. [editline]28th October 2015[/editline] What should the cop have done instead?
yeah i mean he should have just shot her tbh it'd do the job
Explain to me what he was supposed to do. Stand there and go, "well, looks like I can't do my job today folks. The girl told me no."?
so you're telling me the only way a cop can do his job without the use of... "reasoning" is to pick this high school student by the neck and thigh and flip her to the ground and cuff her. a high school student was capable of putting up enough resistance to 2 grown men in a 10x10 classroom, that it warranted the amount of force used in this video, this is what you are saying.
that was way too much, resisting arrest is a thing but so is unnecessary use of force
she couldve hit her neck on the desk behind her when he initially flipped her, or the ground, and then she could've hit her neck again on the wall when he threw her like a goddamn limp puppet

He could have been there for twenty minutes before trying to reason with her for all you know. The reports online are even more vague. If you want to demonize him, do it when you have the full picture, not just his questionable action.
these are children you're talking about, high school children, notorious for their immaturity and lack of respect for authority. let's just beat the shit of them until they follow the law, good motivation
"high school children" Never heard that before in my life. and man you're really juicing that stereotype there. All children act up, hate authority, and don't do as they're told, right? "these are black people you're talking about, ratchet-ass black people, notorious for their immaturity and lack of respect for authority." When are you guys going to learn that you can't just take a group of people, pretend they're all the same, and use it as a justification in any context?
An adult cop shouldnt have to use that much force against any student that isnt like 6 feet and buff or hitting them. There is no reason the cop couldnt have tried to just fucking pick her up, OR call back up and just pick her up normally with 2 people. Its a fucking teenage girl in a chair sitting still, not some 250 pound guy thrashing around.

"Oh, look, the cop's here. Better ignore his requests and see what he does. I'm sure it'll be fun. Never heard about cops using force to get their jobs done before."
Eh, fuck her. She didn't want to go willingly, so she got dumped and cuffed. Guy used as much force as was warranted.
I don't know whether the star on this post is an agree or a dumb I hope it's a dumb
Explain to me what he was supposed to do. Stand there and go, "well, looks like I can't do my job today folks. The girl told me no."?
lmfao yes, it's not the cops job to throw a student around just cause she's not listening. just give the girl a punishment like a normal school. Unless it's normal in the US for cops to throw teens around like trash bins
Stupid bitch should have complied.
okay what the FUCK is wrong with all of you saying that was in any way excusable. feels more and more like fox news comments around here
:snip: merge

A teenager sitting at a desk doesn't somehow warrant being thrown to the ground in a way that could potentially cause serious damage.
these are children you're talking about, high school children, notorious for their immaturity and lack of respect for authority.
don't think highschoolers can exactly be considered 'children' in the full sense of the word [editline]27th October 2015[/editline]
and man you're really juicing that stereotype there. Student in the classroom was talking about it earlier today on twitter. Posted his ID to the school on twitter if you have any thoughts that he wasn't there.

[editline]27th October 2015[/editline]
he was talking about age, not a single mention of race rofl
What are these new fangled 'analogies' [editline]27th October 2015[/editline] rofl
You're telling me you didn't have any common sense in highschool? "Oh, look, the cop's here. Better ignore his requests and see what he does. I'm sure it'll be fun. Never heard about cops using force to get their jobs done before."
uhuh so because this man is a cop, not only is it fully acceptable and even considered just to use excessive force on a child aged 15-18, she should have expected to be forced from her desk and thrown halfway across the room onto the floor and arrested in front of her classmates when she decided to do stupid teenage things you do in your stupid teenage years. im not making excuses for her, she's dumb as fuck and should've accepted the consequences of her actions. she obviously doesn't realize this so how do we, beloved America, teach her to accept consequences? SLAM HER INTO THE FUCKIN GROUNDDDDD YEAHAAA when shit like this happened, the disciplinary worker came directly to the classroom, called their parents, reasoned with them using consequences, etc. if they still didn't leave or continued to be a nuisance, the school police officer came out and talked to them. and that was the most it ever took. i realize that's anecdotal as fuck, but you will never convince me with any amount of context that the force used was "necessary" lol, it's a fucking kid vs. a grown man.
What are these new fangled 'analogies'
how is 'highschooler' analogous with 'black' highschoolers in general regardless of race are known (stereotyped if ya wanna be nitpicky) to be dumbasses if the girl was white or martian or some shit im sure he wouldve said the same exact thing you managed to make a race-related issue where there was none
This was way past the line. I sincerely doubt a teenager sitting at a desk is somehow threatening enough to warrant a police officer lifting her with the desk and slamming her to the ground like that.
