I WOULD LIKE TO START OFF BY SAYING IF THIS IS IN THE WRONG SECTION, PLEASE MOVE IT MODS. I PUT IT IN THE MUSIC SECTION BUT BECAUSE THERE WAS NO RESPONSE I THOUGHT I'D PUT IT IN THE WRONG SECTION SO I PUT IT HERE.
APOLOGIES IF I'M WRONG.

I want to be a DJ. When I say a DJ, I don't mean making my own music and what-not. I mean DJing at parties, events etc.
I've done radio work in the past, and I'm very confident and have good charisma skills, plus I love music. I also love to meet new people, make friends etc. I think this'd be perfect for me.
So I have several different issues which I'll put here now.
1. What equipment would I need?
I would presume a laptop, a microphone and some good speakers, but I'm not sure.
2. How wide do you think my music assortment would have to be?
At the moment I have about two thousand songs (Small collection I know, but as the money rolls in I'm constantly buying new albums.), however most of these songs are fit into the following genres: Inide, Alternative, Pop, Chart, and a tiny bit RnB.
3. How should I start this hobby off?
I was thinking of beginning something simple, like a friends birthday party. However, my dads wedding is coming up soon, so I may ask him if he needs a DJ. Any suggestions?
Thanks for reading this, if you have bothered. I'll add a tl;dr for lazy people.
Hope to see some helpful replies.
TL;DR I WANT TO DJ, WANT HELP WITH CERTAIN ASPECTS SUCH AS MUSIC AND EQUIPMENT.
Also, because this is the GD, let's have your opinions on something so I don't get banned or whatever.
What do you think of DJing? Would you take it up? D'you think you have the charismatic skills and what-not?
Discuss.

You might need a turn-table i think.
As for music variety, i would try to make it vast. Have different mixtures of the types. Makes you a good DJ
edit: As for starting, try putting up posters, or advertisements online. Simple stuff
Wow, that was an INSANELY fast response.
A turn-table, eh? Right-o.
Also, I'm trying to work on expanding my genres at the moment to fit the needs of different venues and stuff, if I got into this properly.
Thankyou for the quick reply.
1) A computer.
2) 4-5 foot wide.
3) Party at your moms house.
Also, I thought louis walsh was an X-factor judge, not a wannabe DJ.
I have a computer, but I'm getting a laptop so I can take it there with my music on it.
Also, to number 2. Sigh.
My nan is dead. I hope you feel happy, my good man.
Suck some radio jockey's dick and he will give you airtime and use of equipment

Rated optimistic, but I'll pass.

You want to be DJ but you have no idea what you need?
:wtc:
I will be sucking no dick, thanks.

Also, my condolonces to you for your nan :frown:
You don't need a turntable, in the sense of Vinyl, unless you want to be a "DJ" as in a mixing/club DJ.
You'll need a multitrack CD player or a laptop with some DJing software, there are plenty around. My step dad DJ's for parties and dances etc and all he uses is a Laptop and his speakers.

Every single DJ in the world has started off not knowing what he was doing. And they learned. I'm just one of those beginners, is all.
Really, just ask around your school, say that you will dj at dances, the school does not want to pay the radio staion to do that
Make a mix-tape, fly it around school.

I don't think that would go down to well. My school is the sort of school were if you open your mouth a chav would accuse you of calling him a chav, and try and punch you.

I'll get in contact with my high school again and give them a talk about it. Maybe they will consider it because I was a past pupil. Thanks for the idea man!

That's cool, because I have DJ software on hand, and all I'd need is a new laptop and some decent speakers. Although, the speakers would have to be pretty damn good.
