• The Rising Korean Conflict

If you've been living under a rock or are watching American news, you may not have realized anything about the quickly growing, almost crisis-level situation in the Korean Peninsula. 2 months and 2 days ago (March 26), the SK ship the Cheonan was hit by a torpedo in disputed waters, killing 46. Around 1 week ago, SK officially announce that SK, US, UK, Australian, and Swedish investigators found 'overwhelming' evidence that the torpedo was launched by a North submarine. Should this be the case, this would be the first direct attack by the North on the South and a breaking of the Korean War Armistice which has kept the two nations at an uneasy peace since the unofficial end of the war. US President Barack Obama has stated that the US is pledging total political and, if need be, military support to the South, and is backing the South completely. Southern forces have heightened their level of alert while the 28000 US troops remain at an active and ready alert level, but it has not been raised. The North fired back, stating that they did not attack the ship, and that continuing to claim that they did or taking action against them would mean all-out war. US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is currently in talks with the Chinese and North. Currently, China is attempting to force a negotiation and diplomatic solution between the sides. China has a defense contract with the North that is expected to be renewed in 2012. The South has held an emergency meeting of national leaders and has concluded that political retaliation and possibly war is likely. The US has lead the way in imposing sanctions against the North. As of today, the South and US have announced plans to begin naval war exercises in Korean waters- a direct statement to the North. The North has again threatened war, and on their official website have claimed that the attack was either friendly fire or a false flag operation to bring about war by the US, and that SK has denied North inspectors and investigators and ignored the findings of Japanese investigators. A UN council is currently investigating the incident. The final results will be seen as official in the eyes of the South and could be cause for war on both sides. The South today completely cut off all trade with the North. The North has responded by saying if their demands are not met, they will declare war. At most it's a political conflict, not a militarized one.
Why can't people just get along :saddowns:
Why can't people just get along :saddowns:
because of some guy called kim yong il
At most it's a political conflict, not a militarized one.
NK has nuclear warhead and won't bother using them.
Why can't people just get along :saddowns:
We're human.
My grandfather's war is quickly becoming my war.
Leave Korea alone, there a nation of /b/. Keeping all the shit in till it blows out all over the place. :tinfoil: They are basically IRL greifing us.
As a South Korean with a father that was in the Korean War, I'll personally move to South Korea and get my ass into ROK if the war is imminent. Fuck the North
Just wipe these fuckers out and be done with it
Anyone want to stand on the Border between the North and South and give out free hugs with me? :saddowns:
Why can't people just get along :saddowns:
Kim Jong-Il believes NK is invincible and should control the world, SK won't stop picking on NK for its ideas. Both sides keep pushing each other.
NK has nukes and China has huge Military. So most people don't mess with them. [Sp] Except the U.S.A.[/sp] :saddowns:
Anyone want to stand on the Border between the North and South and give out free hugs with me? :saddowns:
Hugs will get you thrown in a prison camp because hugs are against Kim Jong's will.
NK has nukes and China has huge Military. So most people don't mess with them. [Sp] Expect the U.S.A.[/sp] :saddowns:
China wouldn't help North Korea, this isn't the Cold War. Also it's except.
I doubt NK's nukes are complete enough to actually be used as a warhead, so I wouldn't worry about that.
Just wipe these fuckers out and be done with it
Its not that simple, millions on both sides will die. Trying to get rid of the corruption of North Korea will turn to utter chaos.
It's time we end this war, I'm all for it. [editline]10:02PM[/editline]
Its not that simple, millions on both sides will die. Trying to get rid of the corruption of North Korea will turn to utter chaos.
There already is chaos in the North. People are starved, killed, and put in camps every day. You have no idea how bad it is over there.
There already is chaos in the North. People are starved, killed, and put in camps every day. You have no idea how bad it is over there.
So let's bring chaos to the South? Possible outcomes: South wins after being devastated, North is completely taken over North wins, South is totally fucked And most likely, eventually the two dies agree to stop after devastating each other, the lines on the map move a little, the South is devastated, and the North is still just as bad.
I hope there isn't a war. My brother just went to army boot camp :saddowns: Go bro go!!!
It's going to be a bitch to re-assimilate the remnants of the North Korean population after being brain-washed/indoctrinated from an armed conflict.
China wouldn't help North Korea, this isn't the Cold War. Also it's except.
They're allied, there's nothing to indicate China wouldn't help them. Personally I think they're at least gonna send them materials.

The Norths military is weak. War would be fought on the North side with the help of US soldiers and possibly other countries. Kim Jong Il would be taken out of power and a democratic stable government would be formed over years. China would be devastated without the US buying their lead based toys.
Regardless of who would win, everybody loses. Also any situation where China and US risk poking each other must be avoided or shit may REALLY hit the fan.
Regardless of who would win, everybody loses. Also any situation where China and US risk poking each other must be avoided or shit may REALLY hit the fan.
China and US are best of friends and will be for a long while. Everybody loses if we sit and don't do anything. All it takes is one nuke and it's all over. We can't just ignore a major problem.
China would NEVER help the North or oppose the US. The US is what supports their economy. China would be devastated without the US buying their lead based toys.
Yes they would, The free market is failing while the controlled market's (Like China's) is rising in power. I think the next capitol of the world powers will be china... I think every county will get its chance of being the big boy
The North would never win, that's ludicrous. The Norths military is weak. War would be fought on the North side with the help of US soldiers and possibly other countries. But they'll bomb the shit out of the South.
It's going to be a bitch to re-assimilate the remnants of the North Korean population after being brain-washed/indoctrinated from an armed conflict.
Not only that, but the costs would be absolutely massive and would put enormous strains on the South's economy. I believe that west Germany is still subsidising east Germany. Not to mention that the south may have been almost entirely devastated, even if they win thus meaning that the costs would probably be almost impossible to meet.
We would have eliminated North Korea long ago if they didnt have nukes and leverage on the total destruction of Seoul.
