Accutane - Cures acne, can cause horrible death. Worth it?

I'm not talking about one or two pimples on your chin. I'm talking acne. We're talking the shit that grows on your face at uncontrollable rates and fucks over your confidence to the stage you don't want to go outside or look in mirror. Most people suffer with Acne till they're in there Early or mid twenties. I'm 18, I'm not waiting around for this acne to just go. I'm not going through uni or even this summer with acne. I've dodged cameras and mirrors for too fucking long.
Then I found Accutane. I've checked forum after forum. Yahoo Answer after Yahoo Answer. I even search about on Twitter. From what I can tell this shit is guranteed to clean up your acne in 3 weeks - 3 months. But it's a serious drug, it has these type of side effects.
Common Reactions to Accutane
Pain and swelling of the lips
Severe itching
Alopecia (hair-thinning/hair-loss/baldness)
Fragile and weaker skin
Vision problems
Decreased night vision (onset may be sudden)
Conjunctivitis (pink eye)
Contact lens intolerance
Dry mucous membranes (dry nose, lungs, bladder, anus)
Peeling skin on palms/soles
Nail changes
Nosebleeds
Photosensitivity (sensitivity to light)
Elevated triglycerides in the blood
Elevated liver enzymes (indicating liver damage)
Tinnitus (ringing in ears or buzzing in ears)
Joint pain and muscle pain
Back pain
Depression
Serious Reactions to Accutane
Depression
Erectile dysfunction (difficulty in maintaining erection) :dong:
Violent behavior/aggression
Psychosis (seeing or hearing things that are not real)
Suicidal ideation (rare)
Suicide attempts
Hearing impairment
Pseudotumor cerebri (swelling pressure in the brain)
Osteopenia/osteoporosis (loss in bone mass and strength/weak and fragile bones)
Hepatotoxicity (liver damage)
Anaphylaxis (rapid and deadly allergic reaction)
Allergic vasculitis (inflammation and damage to blood vessels)
Major birth defects
Cataracts/corneal opacities (can cause a decrease in vision and lead to eventual blindness)
Premature epiphyseal closure (short stature)
Neutropenia (low white blood cell count, which makes the body vulnerable to bacterial and fungal infections)
Agranulocytosis (a serious condition in which white blood cells decrease in number or disappear altogether) (rare)
Rhabdomyolysis (potentially fatal disease that destroys skeletal muscle) (rare)
Inflammatory bowel disease (inflammation of the intestine and resulting in abdominal cramping and persistent diarrhea)
Pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas, an organ important in digestion)
Vascular thrombosis (heart attack)
Stroke
Seizures
So it could, in theory. Make me blind, disabled and deaf. It could turn me into a vegetable. :byodood:
I've heard for the most part it just causes dry skin and some nose bleeds. This seems fine to me. I'm going to ask my doctor for a prescription when I see them at the end of the month. I've tried everything else, this is a last shot attempt. But I'm curious to hear what you guys think. Would you take this drug? Have you taken this drug? Am I a fucking idiot?
Don't forget to vote on the poll.
You're opinion is 'important' to me. Ha, Yeah let's go with that.
Wow, sounds dangerous. I can understand your reasons for it, i don't have acne personally, but i understand how it can really affect your confidence and mess you up.
Yea definetly sounds worth it, become a vegetable cause you couldn't take having a pizza face for a couple years

This thread is going to become a food fight I can tell.
I just took my dose this morning, been on 40mg for way too long now.
It's not made me want to kill myself but just rather felt grumpy and a teensy bit bipolar for the last year.
Cosmetically it made so much fucking difference, I get compliments on my skin all the time, my girlfriend loves it, even my chemistry tutor complimented me on it :).
Apart from the moods, not really any hideous side effects, but have felt like I get headaches more often, but then again I am a massive caffiene addict.
Oh and one more thing, I don't have most of those side effects, but the dry lips one is a dead cert. You'll be fine as long as you take one of those pocket vaseline tubs around.

You take it once - if you don't have any severe responses, you won't have any of those problems.
But honestly, why would you even considers something so risky, if it really is that bad, then don't take it, you told us all the reasons yourself, be a man and deal with it, it's just a stage and there are better things you can take out there, you just need to look a little harder to find them
Heavy risk, but the prize.
[sp]Terrible joke[/sp]
On 60mg a day right now, the side effects are exaggerated, all medicine is like that, so if one of the thousands of testers went deaf, even if it was completely unrelated, it's listed, they have to list everything that could possibly go wrong. My joints get a little stiff sometimes and for the first few months I had a bit of a short temper, your lips and skin dry out pretty bad though. But it's definitely worth it, in 4 months I went from acne that was barely manageable while on an anti-biotic and a dozen prescription strength face washes to almost completely clear.
Definitely not worth it. I had pretty bad acne, but then I tried out this new phototherapy light device, you put this light on your skin every other day for 10 minutes and after a couple weeks, you definitely notice a difference. It's also completely harmless. I definitely recommend you try using it before you go to such drastic measures. Along with this light, I also had taken doxycycline and tretinoin gel to cure my acne, both also played a nice part in curing mine.

what if it doesn't work and you become a pizza vegetable.
do you become ham and pineapple?
wait, that's a fruit.
hahaha [sp]You better hope your good lookin under all that acne or it wont matter, the pussy still wont come[/sp]

acne sucks dude, but risks come with anything. it's all relative - if the serious impacts occur every one in a million, maybe it's a risk to take? but again, it depends on alot of things right? talk to a doctor about it, i'm sure they can give you better advice

I tried everything before; multivitamins, sleeping with a towel on my pillow, good diet, no dairy, various skin cleansers and even some algae derivative that sealed up my pores \:v:/.
The difference is really astounding.
Go outside. Seriously, I'm not even being sarcastic. I don't know if it's the exercise, the fresh air, on the sun, but if you go outside for a bit everyday, should be easy now that it's summer, it really cleared up my zits. I don't have horrible acne but bad enough but now as long as I do that, I have literally no zits.

That's fine, I don't really like stray cats
Yeah but Dan, Georgia Moffett is in to you. What will she say when she sees you without your acne? She might not recognise you!
Also, it'll get worse the first month or two, but after that it'll be a dramatic improvement, doctors generally put you on a 6 month program, and you have mandatory blood screening every month to make sure no ridiculous side-effects happen. If all of those serious side effects were actually happening do you think they would be prescribing this to teens left and right lol?

I went on holiday to South Africa for 2 weeks, sunlight helps a lot, but It's always overcast in the UK anyway.

I'm fairly certain some attractive woman still remembers some guy she met for five seconds at a convention one time. I'm certain.
We'll be fine we're practically married apart from the fact we're not.

Interesting.
So I'll wake up and be like "Holly shit my acne is bad"
then three months later I'll be like "Woah that Accutane is clearing it up"
When in reality it's just fixing the mess it started?
I highly doubt all those side effects would occur
No, don't do it.
My friend found out he had some problems with the medication, he developed a few of the symptoms.
I took acutane, it was the worst six months of my life, but I am now acne free, and will never have acne because of it.
The drug acutane is not for people with mild acne, it is for people that have uncontrollable genetic acne, like myself.
I had acne almost everywhere on my body, neck, legs, arms, back, face, you name it.
Also, acutane is not the first step that they take, they give you certain creams and rubs before finally taking the large step to acutane.
Mind you the six months of taking the drug were terrible. I suffred from dry skin, nosebleeds. dry mouth, scarring from the rapidly healing acne, stomach problems.
Now let me talk to you about some of the side effects.
Depression- This one is a utter load of bull shit, I did some research into it and it turns out, the only reason this is on the side effects list is because of the following reason: A senators son, who had depression before taking the drug, was on acutane, the son killed himself because people were making fun of his dried skin, and nosebleeds.
During my six months of taking the medicine, I had to take depression tests every week, they were stupid, I didn't experience the least bit of depression.
Stomach problems- Now this side effect, is very real. I had and still have stomach problems, but, it isn't something a tums tablet after a large meal can't fix.
Dry skin- This was one of the worst side effects, I always carried chapstick with me, because my lips would become a wrinkled, chapped, mess. My skin would peel, but I fixed that by using prescription strength moisturizer.
Thank you for taking the time to read this,
I've taken it and it's not really as bad as it sounds. I'd recommend it to other people but the side effects are different for everybody.

It's because it practically changed the chemicals your body produces when you get acne.
Normally your body produces grease or sweat, now it will just dry up, killing the acne on the spot.
the first outbreak you get, is your skin going through that change
.
"Take the Accutane!"
"Don't you dare!"
"Go on do it!"
"Don't!"
"Yes!"
"Don't!"
But seriously don't.
My friend uses it. I think the chances of it affecting you in a bad way is way slimmer than it just destroying your acne.
Accutane sounds like a hydrocarbon.
Oh and you really shouldn't take it, just go outside more instead, it can help to get rid of acne.
Used it for 6 months two years ago. Only got very dry lips and nose and occasional nosebleeds. Never had a zit again after this.
