Irrational Games’ Ken Levine has revealed some new information about the highly anticipated third part in the Bioshock series. According to Levine, Bioshock: Infinite will most probably come on one disc on consoles and on three discs on the PC. Levine has also clarified that the museum in the Rapture edition will not be a full “level,” exclusive to those who purchased that particular edition. In reality, the museum will simply be an in-engine space where players can view unused art and characters, and nothing more. Regarding the game’s length, Levine said that the game is on par with first Bioshock game. Or for him at least. When asked about the presence of those amazing audio logs, Levine responded and confirmed that Bioshock: Infinite will feature such audio logs that can be collected by the players while exploring the environments. It also seems that Bioshock: Infinite will be more action packed than its predecessors. When a fan asked whether Infinite will focus more on shooting than the first Bioshock game, Levine did not give a clear answer to that. Instead – and in an attempt similar to those of the PR guys – Levine said that both of these games have plenty of shooty. Bioshock: Infinite is currently planned for a March 26th release, and the PC version will support both DX10 and DX11, as well as a FOV slider!
SOURCE
3 discs? I thought 2 discs was huge enough. [editline]6th January 2013[/editline] wait, how big would that make the game exactly?
1 disc on consoles and 3 on pc? uh....wonder what they cut from the console versions
1 disc on consoles and 3 on pc? uh....wonder what they cut from the console versions
I'm guessing the DX10 and 11 features
I'm guessing the DX10 and 11 features
and higher res textures
1 disc on consoles and 3 on pc? uh....wonder what they cut from the console versions
Pc version gets textures that are bigger than 640x480.
i better hand on the system requirements / steam install to see what it's gonna do on my harddrive
... Definitely buying this on disc if I get it. This thing would make a serious bite in my download limits, judging by the disc count.
Audio logs aw yiss They haven't abandoned that at least. I also hope that the half the game isn't an Elizabeth escort quest, [sp]I'm glad they cut that out of the last part of Bioshock 2 by using the summon plasmid for example.[/sp]
3 discs on PC and 1 on console? Isn't that kind of ass backwards?
3 discs on PC and 1 on console? Isn't that kind of ass backwards?
They still press their games on DVD for the PC, so you have on those 3 DVDs a max. space of 14,1GB (and I think we are at about 12GB here with this game (just on the disc, not installed)) With a game of hypothetical 12GB it's not a big surprise that it will come out on 3DVDs, for the PC and on ONE Disc for the console counterparts, since the Xbox 360's Dual Layer have a space of 10,75GB and the PS3's BluRay has 25GB (50 GB if dual layered) (A smaller size on the Xbox 360 could be achived with lower res. textures or normalmaps) Having PC games on multiple discs is absolutely nothing new.
Same length as the Original Bioshock? Kinda worries me a little. and I already knew about the audio logs when I won the pre order puzzle game and got a ingame passive for getting extra money with audio logs. It's called "Extra! Extra!"
They still press their games on DVD for the PC, so you have on those 3 DVDs a max. space of 14,1GB (If all discs are single layered, if dual layered we have a size of 25GB) With a game of hypothetical 14,1GB it's not a big surprise that it will come out on 3DVDs, for the PC and on ONE Disc for the console counterparts, since the Xbox 360's HDDVDs have a space of 15GB (30GB dual layered) and the PS3's BluRay has 25GB (50 GB if dual layered) Having PC games on multiple discs is absolutely nothing new.
360 games don't use HDDVDs, just dual-layer. HDDVD was only for movies, and could only work with the attachment.
the Xbox 360's HDDVDs have a space of 15GB (30GB dual layered)
The 360 doesn't use HD-DVDs, just DVD-9's giving 8.54 GB per disc. Hardware limitations mean that the texture size is likely much smaller, and textures do consume a significant amount of space.
So this will be like max Payne 3 and take a million years to download
I don't even own a DVD drive yet I want the retail copy :v:

How do we fix the calculation now? Pressed Xbox 360 games on a Dual Layer can even have a size of up to 10,75GB... as Halo Reach has demonstrated. Let's say the PC uses up 4GB more on the textures and normal maps, that would explain some of the space used on DVD Nr. 3
Same length as the Original Bioshock? Kinda worries me a little.
bioshock 1 didn't feel too long or too short for me at all to notice it.
bioshock 1 didn't feel too long or too short for me at all to notice it.
I stand corrected, I was probably thinking of Bioshock 2. Bioshock 1 was long enough to be great, though it did kinda drag at a point [sp]Arcadia anyone?[/sp].
Theirs always the chance that it could pull a Max Payne 3 and have a ridiculous file size for no reason That's probably not the case though
They still make discs for PC games? Whoa.
not everyone has fast internet connections you know. people for some reason like to pretend fast speeds are the norm for some reason.
not everyone has fast internet connections you know. people for some reason like to pretend fast speeds are the norm for some reason.
Try living with Comcast's "Economy" tier internet. 3Mbps down.
More action-packed than its predecessors? The first game was plenty shooty enough, it seems like each game gets a little farther from their System Shock roots, just a little bit more shooter and less RPG. Well, maybe this time they'll have 'moral choice' that isn't 'Hitler or Mother Theresa'.
Thats pretty awesome. Definitely am going to have nostalgia switching disks in and out.
But Bioshock 1 lasted 6 hours for me...
Would be cool if they offered a blu-ray version that was just on one disk.
Try living with Comcast's "Economy" tier internet. 3Mbps down.
Bah. Try living with rural DSL that tops out at a whopping 350KB/s down. You'll think your economy-tier Comcast is hot shit after living with my DSL for a few months.
too bad the game is $60 on PC, and the preorder incentive is -wait for it- a flash game :v: guess wait for Steam sale
Bah. Try living with rural DSL that tops out at a whopping 350KB/s down. You'll think your economy-tier Comcast is hot shit after living with my DSL for a few months.
That's 2.8Mbps, not that much difference.
too bad the game is $60 on PC, and the preorder incentive is -wait for it- a flash game :v: guess wait for Steam sale
It's a fun flash game that lets you in on the backstory of the civil war in Columbia.
