Hahahahaha
so was the 42 hours spent on the wall of text or the piece
This is, in a word, wonderful. 42 hours well spent. I am inspired by you. [editline]8th June 2013[/editline] I also really appreciate that you have given a list of EVERY tool used in it's creation. Could you give step by steps instructions too? I want a copy for my wall.
Holy shit that is a very huge wall of text. I'm pretty sure everyone is convinced that you spent more time on the text than the actual picture.
Picture isn't all that good, and huge fuck off wall of text? Listing of every pencil used...really? You sir, seem to be doing this in the wrong fashion. Art should speak for itself.
Incredibly pretentious
so was the 42 hours spent on the wall of text or the piece
The 42 hours was on the actual piece. It was my first piece on 11x14 paper, so it took a little more effort to get most of the white out (including recoloring 2 to 4 times, plus blending). As far as the description, I am happy if people read it, but not offended if they are not interested to do so.

This post is a reflection of the saying, "begin by drawing and painting like the old masters. After that do as you see fit—you will always be respected." It is by Salvador Dalí. The quote is, not the post, that is. The forum cannot help you with your somewhat pretentious attitudes, nor can help you with your long windedness. What it's here for is to help people become technically proficient in art. All your symbolism and effort is meaningless without technical proficiency. To this end I suggest you start with smaller projects to familiarize yourself with the fundamentals of drawing and such. All this wasted time and effort. No one cares if you got the white out. Why the hell would you do this to yourself?
All your symbolism and effort is meaningless without technical proficiency.
Can this be the official CC t-shirt?
So, do you think all art requires a length 10 page description for anyone to understand it, or only just yours?
I am not sure where you are going with this, but I'll answer anyway. If the I thought the whole 10 pages was what the piece required, then yes, I think I am fully justified in writing one out (I would also be justified in writing a 100 page description). Now, I did divide the description into sections, because not all of it pertained specifically to the artwork (which was mentioned). And if another person happened to make the same piece at the same time, and not describe/explain it all, then that is his/her choice as well. And you are exactly right when it comes to a forum and why art is posted. So that being said, what fundamentals would you suggest I work on?

Anyway, so these six books here are very nice: http://www.alexhays.com/loomis/ These here teach you mostly about doing faces, people and landscapes in pencil. The skills there are pretty important in every medium and subject, however. Anyway, from there you can do all sorts of photostudies and life drawings for practice. Beyond that I don't really have much advice, the books kinda speak for themselves. Good luck.

I think this thread has served most of its purpose, and I will no longer be keeping up with it. So it may not be worth commenting on if you wish to contact me. Additionally, I will be back with something better next time. Thanks! :)
well that went better than what I was expecting. Good to see both sides agreed on something
pretty offensive work, next time you spend 42 hours on something, try not to compare an entire demographic to death and evil (except dead and evil people (evil is a concept that does not exist in reality))
is this your original character for bleach
Lmao I saw this on /ic/, they ripped it to shreds too Hey listen I really like the idea behind it, but I've never been a fan of the view that the intent is more important than the content. I completely agree with your stance but there's no need to be that overt, work on your fundamentals and you'll be in good shape.
Excellent work, my fellow gentleman. I tip my fedora to you.
The 42 hours was on the actual piece. As far as the description, I am happy if people read it, but not offended if they are not interested to do so.
next time please write what 11x14 is, it could be anything from centimeters to inches, which is a world of diefference, I checked the devart page and saw it was in inches, which is ~30x35cm, that's pretty big, but I wouldn't give that piece more than 8 hours of work. Work on your form and anatomy, but considering the more symbolic focus of this piece, I'd suggest focusing on your colour theory, it's lacking contrast and looks kind of washed out and flat. edit: actually I'd put form on the same level as colour theory, the shape of the face is flat also because of the form not just the colour As far as everything else goes, to me what you wrote under the image is completely separate from the image itself. Whatever the hell that text says doesn't matter. The image itself has a very clear message considering the world of science and life being overtaken and destroyed by religion, it means "religion = bad" and the piece conveys that message very well, but then again that message is simple as shit and clearly wasn't as simple as what you wrote under it. The piece failed to represent what you actually meant, which is bad. If you disagree that this should speak for itself, then it isn't a drawn piece, it's mixed media. also
Finally, let me leave you with one final thought; a quote by a man born 2300 years ago – Epicurus. “Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then He is not omnipotent. Is He able, but not willing? Then He is malevolent. Is He both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is He neither able nor willing? Then why call Him God?” The world was in pain and agony yesterday, continues to today, and will be tomorrow. People are starving, and warfare has become constant. If your god is ok with allowing this, then I doubt he would mind if you sought out answers to your questions. Don’t try to force a derived answer from ancient text, but rather find a community that shares your thoughts and questions. Never abandon your questions. Pursue them to highest degree, and become a free-thinking person free from guilt and religious oppression. Below I will give you a handful of links to communities of people who never gave up on their own questions and pursuit of knowledge. Thanks again for stopping by!

Never abandon your questions.
this sentence is good, the rest of that paragraph lacks perspective. When it comes down to it religion vs. atheism doesn't matter, freedom of thought and action does. A form religion with that freedom is an inevitable result, so the whole religion v atheism debate isn't really going to go anywhere that matters.
so where is the fedora?
so where is the fedora?
More details please what colour socks were you wearing at the time? Do they have watermarks on them as well? What did you have for breakfast before you started it? Better list the ingredients from the packaging in full! [editline]17th June 2013[/editline] Fucking.. hahahah

Now this is true art. OP, take some notes.
Art isn't about making yourself seem cool. But that's besides the point, because this doesn't make you look cool at all.
Why is there a need for two watermarks that have exactly the same information on them?
Why is there a need for two watermarks that have exactly the same information on them?
Why is there a need to point out the same thing everybody else has been harping on? Don't shitpost, thanks. By the way OP, I've been watching this thread and I think its a shame you've received a lot of TRIVIAL criticism. I personally don't care for your art, it doesn't pose anything legitimate for myself, but it shouldn't have been hated on with such tenacity. You have clean lines and a fair catch on potential. Keep trying..
The guys here may find this interesting :) OP, I think you tried to pack way too much meaning into the mask. It comes off as convoluted and a lot more shallow than you intend it to be. Perhaps a little something from Mies van der Rohe would help: less is more.
