Parked up on a car park in Wolverhampton City Centre today, came back to find my car window smashed, and head unit (Pioneer £50) and sat nav (Navigo £40) nicked.
I've never had any problems like this before in my 3.5 years living here and it comes as a bit of a shock to be honest.
Can anyone help me in any way? I don't know the area too well so it would be nice if someone knew a cheap guy for getting the glass done (I am a student), also if anyone has or knows of a good deal for a Pioneer head unit (with mp3/usb) please get in touch. Not too worried about the sat nav to be fair, don't use it much and it was a bit annoying.
To top it all off I found that after being home for summer for 3 months, somebody nicked my garage included with my flat and put their own padlock on it and I have nothing to break it off so I'm gonna have to park outside my window and stay up all night, effectively. If anyone in the area could break it for me I'd greatly appreciate it and obviously I'd pay them something... (there is probably a car/corpses in there, though!)
This is my first thread in quite a while so I'm not too sure what else to say...
Here is the current state of the situation anyway;
- Police are "conducting their investigation" and awaiting CCTV footage from the University (was parked on the staff car park as I work for them part time)
- Got a quote for new glass for £105 including callout to my flat and fitting
- Gonna call some breakers yards in the morning to see if they have any of my car model kicking about as I've got a few cheap repairs done that way in the past
look on craigslist you'll get a better chance of finding replacement shit there than here
God damn man :( I hate scum who do this, they need to grow up and make something of their life.
Don't worry, he only got 5 feet away when this happened

That really sucks. I hope they catch the guy and you get your stuff back.

nice edit
yeah what of it
That really sucks...
I just bought a car that came with dual 9"-10" subs in them, and its a hatchback. They are nice and add a neat look to the inside of the car where I put them, but I'm scared to death someone's gonna see them and smash my car up just to get them since they are easily visible inside my hatchback. Which would suck because they both are probably only worth about $100 and wouldn't be worth the risk on the part of the thief. Some people are just so desperate...
In anycase keep an eye out on Craigslist for your stuff. I figure that is a popular avenue to get stuff sold off for decent cash since you'd get good returns there compared to a pawn shop.
On that note, visit local pawn shops and see if any of your stuff is on sale. Ask them to keep a lookout for your stolen goods too, I'm sure they'll do that for you.
This is assuming whoever broke into your car wanted some cash, and wasn't planning on using stuff himself. I personally never understood why people take headunits off stereos considering the headunit is useless without the receiver it hooks up to, unless there is a market for universal receivers I don't know about. And unless they stole the receiver too, but I doubt that considering it would be hardwired into your dash and therefore would take some level of time to remove even if you were an experienced thief (most petty thieves that break into cars are not).

Well, it's mostly the whole unit which gets taken. It does not take that much time to remove, just a little tool and it can be removed in less than 15 seconds.
A head-unit and a receiver is the same thing?
Tinted windows help. A criminal may be less likely to break into a car if they are unaware of what is inside, even if it was nice. These items were visible weren't they?
Also KorJax, tint your hatchback as dark as you legally can. You don't want anyone to see those subs.
The CD player was visible but the satnav was just an added bonus in the glove compartment.
Left my car in the same car park hundreds of times before, I guess taking the fascia off could have deterred them in this situation if I had taken it with me or hidden it out of sight
I had someone break into my car a few months ago. Well, not really break into it since that would imply they forced their way in when in reality the door was unlocked, but they tried stealing my radio and failed spectacularly at it. Though they fucked up my dash pretty good, it's all cracked and shit, but I don't really care.
I live in Walsall, and I can tell you Wolverhampton is a pretty shit place. I'm not suprised it got broke into, half the population in Wolverhampton is chav's and unemployed teens that have nothing better to do than rob stuff, stand on the corners of their streets etc.
I lived in the center for a while right next to the football stadium and nothing happened yet today in the middle of the day when I was parked there for 2 hours this shit comes along :P
I live in what I'd call a better area now on the outskirts which is pretty quiet and somewhat rural

lol, I'd rather like to create an awesome mod for a game and end up with a fuckton of money and a good relationship with a respectable distribution platform and successful games development company.
Just me, eh?
I've visited Birmingham a few times but only the centre, what's the rest like?
Yeah, It's not all bad around here.
Yeah I reckon it's like anywhere really, good areas and bad areas.
I come from rural North Norfolk, though, so I guess there is a massive difference for me. I could probably leave my car unlocked on a main road parked up with the windows open and nothing would happen back there.

Birmingham's cool, I hate it sometimes because I think its too busy if you know what I mean, people always around and punks looking for easy pickings but Id miss the place if I was in some quiet rural area.
Always something to do on the weekends (night life) just have to stay out of the shitty generic clubs and find the good places. Also yea about your car depends where you park it. A quiet car park is easy pickings and hell there could be alot of cars there but if there isnt a constant stream of people walking in and out then someones going to take a chance. Can you claim insurance or anything or is it not worth the premium?
Yeah that makes sense, guess sometimes it's worth paying for secure parking :P
Funny thing is the car park where this happened has people going in and out of it all the time since it is the University staff car park and people are always walking past since it is near the student residences and 24hr Asda.
I don't think it would be worth going insurance route since I have a couple years no claims and the stolen items come to only about £90-£100ish.
Got a quote for new glass for passenger side front window from a budget place nearby £105 including callout to my address and fitting which seems fair and I'm gonna try a couple breakers yards in the morn :P
My dads car was broken into when I was 13, they stole his laptop. Of course I forgot to take the cd I was last using in there.
I lost all my Sims games due to them.
My car is all banged up and shit so i don't have to worry about a broken dashboard or missing radio.
It would suck if my radio got stolen though.
My car coughs and spits in the morning, but purrs like a kitty after the engine gets warm.
Sounds like an animal :P

Who does this!?
I'm sure someone in the area has a pair of bolt cutters, including the police. If they're already helping you with stuff, you could mention that, and ask if they can cut the bolt or something.
This is why you don't leave anything in plain sight in your car. Take your GPS/PDA with you and toss the radio and the GPS holder in the glove compartment when you leave your car for more than 2 hours.

Probably get a chance to see his stuff being sold.
When I visited France we had some stuff in a rental car and we went into a store, 30 minutes later we come out and the driver's window is smashed and all of our stuff was stolen. We even parked in front of a busy cafe. Nobody bothered to stop the guy from smashing the window, and taking all our stuff.
I can't stand when people just sit and watch while something like that is happening.
For the head unit I would suggest going to amazon to get one. I got mine from there and it was higher end unit for like 50-60 quid.
I sort of know how you feel. My car was "broken" into (actually, one of the rear doors weren't locked). They took a GPS unit, the charger, and for some bizarre reason, an electronic tire gauge. And the charger cord apparently got tangled up with my cassette adapter cord and they were in a hurry because they ripped the cord right out of the cassette. That was the part I was most pissed about. Set me back $10! Those bastards.
I was a little pissed about the tire gauge (it was pretty nice, but not very expensive) but the GPS was broken (screen was cracked). Bet he felt like a dumbass after that. Who honestly steals a broken GPS?
So your car was broken into, shit was stolen AND somebody basically stole/confiscated your whole house?
:(
my moms car was broken into last year while she was parked on the wolverhampton train station carpark. police didn't really do anything about it and she had to pay £100 for a window replacement, when all they took was some cd's.
damn. What will you do now when you find a lion?
