Spot on.
the dubstep was missing though
Movie trailers as well. I remember that Inception did it and it was really cool. Is that when it started?
Movie trailers as well. I remember that Inception did it and it was really cool. Is that when it started?
Thing is it worked really well with Inception.
It's about time./Aw Hell.
Where the hell is that famous "Rated M for Mature"?
What the fuck is wrong with me writing about a video I watched in related
Giant Bomb never fails to impress
if I made a trailer I'd probably start with an internet trailer that starts off slow with some actual music, then the enemies show and something very heavy flicks on. AKA real music. then I'd make a second internet trailer that's satirically over pumped up with visual effects and dumpsterstep for the fun of it.
God I fucking love Giant Bomb.
if I made a trailer I'd probably start with an internet trailer that starts off slow with some actual music, then the enemies show and something very heavy flicks on.
"Music I don't like is not real music"
I'm talking about music like in the OP, hyper over dramatic and cliche' at this point, as opposed to something actually composed and worked on heavily. I don't like rap, that doesn't make it "not real music" [editline]1st November 2012[/editline] I think you're being a little too cynical there [editline]1st November 2012[/editline] Though, that being said, if you like that Korn/Skrillex combo / sterotypical dubstep very heavily something is fucking wrong with you
I don't like rap, that doesn't make it "not real music"
But:
Though, that being said, if you like that Korn/Skrillex combo / sterotypical dubstep very heavily something is fucking wrong with you
Yeah see it kind of falls apart when you say that.
I'm talking about music like in the OP, hyper over dramatic and cliche' at this point, as opposed to something actually composed and worked on heavily.
music doesn't have to be complex to be good.
But: Yeah see it kind of falls apart when you say that.
to me it's equal to screamo I just don't get how anyone can like that.
music doesn't have to be complex to be good.
ok so the music in the op and what it represents is good/art?
everyone's different, just because you have a different opinion of something doesn't make everyone else wrong. furthermore, quality doesn't determine whether something is art or not.
Well this thread escalated quickly
everyone's different, just because you have a different opinion of something doesn't make everyone else wrong. furthermore, quality doesn't determine whether something is art or not.
so the music in the op is art. Theres a large chunk of stuff I'd call art/music up until a certain point. This is that point, that's what I was talking about. I'm not saying "Because it's simple it's shit" I'm saying what I describe is shit because it's just blaring noise. if you call this as artistic as lets say, Typical rap, dubstep, bluegrass or classical, you'd have to be insane. That's all I'm saying.
Music that didn't take a long time time to make has a tendency to be bad because it didn't go through many refinement cycles to be gradually improved upon. Music that isn't complex has a tendency to sound generic because the lack of complexity means there isn't much to set it apart from similar works. Not always the case of course, just most of the time.
music doesn't have to be complex to be good.
He's probably trying to say that game trailers shouldn't follow the same formula. Sure, it works, but it gradually lose it's appeal in excess use.
He's probably trying to say that game trailers shouldn't follow the same formula. Sure, it works, but it gradually lose it's appeal in excess use.
and in excess use, what happens is, see OP's video for reference. That happens, but with normal trailers. Gimmicky ultra dramatic "Music" that sounds like overdone shit.
This is one of my favourite trailers. Really well made. Movie sucked though.
and in excess use, what happens is, see OP's video for reference. That happens, but with normal trailers. Gimmicky ultra dramatic "Music" that sounds like overdone shit.
Yeah you see you're kinda the minority here, and you're also kinda silly, for lack of a better word. Maybe dumb, but anyway, guess what. Trailer music is supposed to be like that. It's not gimmicky, that's what the fucking music is. It's supposed to be overdone, it's supposed to emphasize the narrative in the video. It's called trailer music for a reason. OP's video isn't even making fun of the trailer nor the setup of it, it's making fun of the lack of innovation in the people who make these. Fact is that the formula works, and the amount of people that don't get goosebumps from stuff like that is fairly small.

I keep trying to say this. [editline]1st November 2012[/editline] and there are trillions of other trailers without overdone shit. hey guess what it doesn't have to be overdone DUBBBBB DUUBBB WUBBBBB DUBBBB that tries to be extremely dramtic and be edgy and cool.
all trailers try to use that same shit and don't try to do anything different from "Generic dubstep". I keep trying to say this.
Yes, and that's exactly what the video is making fun of. It's not the choice of music, because that fits the trailer type just fine most of the time. Dubstep is great in the right situation, and it's fun to listen to every once in a while. It works in trailers, so people use them. [editline]1st November 2012[/editline]
it kind of becomes a huge gimmick when all trailers try to use that same shit and don't try to do anything different from "Generic dubstep". It gives the feeling across fantastically. Consider that these modern shooters are for the most part just arcade experiences that don't have anything going for them other than the epic badass situations, the best fitting music is literally properly made dubstep or epic music. Aka the stuff you call gimmicky and overdone. Edit: Oh hey yeah I can bring examples of trailers without dubstep that are good. I can also bring examples of trailers with dubstep that are good.
Movie trailers as well. I remember that Inception did it and it was really cool. Is that when it started?
i'm pretty sure it started with inception since the horn was part of the plot (so it was used in the trailers). the horn sounds a slowed down version of the song they use to time the kicks [editline]1st November 2012[/editline] everything just copied the inception trailer after since it "was cool" even though it only had actual relevance to inception
everything just copied the inception trailer after since it "was cool" even though it only had actual relevance to inception
Not really. The bwooms in inception trailer didn't really serve any other purpose than just be awesome. They are, so people imitated it, and it works.

I can also bring examples of trailers with dubstep that are good.
ummm yeah hi dubstep can be good until it sounds like absolute shit that's far overdramatic with edgy sound and BWONG I mean yeah you need to have very dramatic music for dramatic fights but then theres this and this where they try so hard to be dramatic it's easily too much to even take serious and yeah, it can almost sound good like here when it's an actual scene and not just random scenes handpicked [editline]1st November 2012[/editline] oh sorry I'm against using shitty music in trailers that belligerently overuse heavy sounds to try and convey emotion in a "Badass" and "Edgy" way. Just because it's good for inception doesn't make it good for everything. maybe I must just be dumb seriously it just sounds like this when they do that. They just throw a bunch of scenes together without any thought with a ton of explosions and add "BWONG" every cut. That's exactly what happens in the video in the OP.
Not really. The bwooms in inception trailer didn't really serve any other purpose than just be awesome.
