This is really an amazing interview. To listen about Maajid's experience going from radicalization to being progressive, and how he has found himself in a bad spot with the regressive left is something to take notice.
Christ this is an hour and a half long. I gave it 10 minutes because I couldn't watch the rest. These are my comments. - These two are apparently responsible for the term "regressive left". The interviewee wrote about it in a book and the interviewer decided to put that meaning into mainstream. - They like using phrases negative of the left, such as the above and "so-called liberals". - The interviewee believes that "regressive left" is overused and sometimes dangerous to use. Good on him. - I'm confused as to what the interviewee means by "semantic infiltration", I'm not completely sure but he's talking about if we listen to Islamists when it comes to what Islam is, we're falling victim to propaganda. - The interviewer had a pretty eye opening moment. He said he feels sorry for the average muslim because they have to deal with muslim extremists and the left ignoring them (????). No mention of the right. - The interviewee claims he's not a representative of islam, and that is liberal views are fringe. Good on him. - Of course, they're all referring to modern liberalism when they're shittalking liberalism, and refering to classical liberalism when praising liberalism like the previous point above.
I'm confused as to what the interviewee means by "semantic infiltration"
I haven't watched the video, but I'd assume it's repeatedly using a phrase over and over again until it's generally accepted to mean what you're pushing it to mean.

Maybe it's because I just woke up or I don't think it's a thing, but his explanation confused me. Looking up the phrase just gives me left leaning and right leaning websites like salon and nationalreview. Here's the explanation on it, courtesy of salon.
Semantic infiltration means one undermines one’s own position in negotiations by adopting unknowingly the terms which the adversary “infiltrates.”
I looked on other sites and it's confusing too. Maybe the "negotiations" thing throws me off compared to the example they're given. A better definition is this that I made up.
Semantic infiltration is the act of replacing commonly words with euphemisms to make them sound better or worse in the name of harming your political opposite.
Related video:
I like Maajid, as he's a well-spoken activist and he's done fine in life to combat extremism. I actually met him when he was campaigning in Hampstead two years ago, phenomenal to speak to one-on-one, and he correlates well with my views. I haven't gotten to reading "Islam and the Future of Tolerance: A Dialogue", but it's definitely on my bucket list to read. He reminds me a lot of Mehdi Hasan. Dave Rubin seems like a bit of a tool, however. IIRC, he used to be on the Young Turks before he got kicked out because Ungyur criticized Sam Harris too much (boohoo).
