After seeing the suits thread i thought i would make a thread about clothing i have experience with Kilts are traditional scottish wear, although anyone in the world can wear them. At my work we hire out kilts and we have had English, Welsh, Australian, American, Chinese, Japanese and all other types of people wearing kilts. It doesn't matter where you are from they look awesome if you find the right tartan to suit you. [release] Pricing of Kilts [/release] Kilts can vary on price depending on where you get one one from. It also varies on the tartan and the makeup of the kilt A Standard Medium Weight Kilt can vary between £350 - £450 A Standard Heavy-Weight Kilt costs about £460 upwards A Lightweight kilt is around £270 You can get cheap kilts from aldi for around £30 i think? Ebay also do cheap kilts as well but these tend to be rubbish quality and you want a good kilt :D [release] Different Types of Kilts [/release] Kilts come in 3 different weights REIVER which is a lightweight worsted wool BRAERIACH which is a medium weight worsted wool STROME which is a heavy weight worsted wool If you get your kilt from a good store then you can also have the option of Handmade or Semi-Machined. Semi-machined is the more common way for a kilt to be made but some people prefer to get theirs handmade which tends to make the kilt sit better at the back. There is also currently over 2000 tartans available to choose from [release]Variations of Tartans [/release] There are several variations a tartan can come in: Modern - The standard Ancient - The dyes in the cloth tend to be faded variations of the modern tartan Hunting - Hunting tends to look different to Modern/Ancient tartans and focuses more on green shades Muted - Greyish versions of the ancient cloth Weathered - Brownish versions of ancient cloths [release] pictures [/release] I Will update this thread with more info when i get time, does anyone else on facebook own a kilt? Men with kilts are sexy. But I think it's more because they usually have an accent, and accents are more sexy than man-skirts.

Kilts can be awesome if worn correctly, they don't always have to be worn "smartly" E.G i went to a festival, and that year it's theme was military and kilts... It was an awesome mix! Also.. you american people.. NO.. we do NOT walk around in kilts all the time... The only peopel i see wearing kilts are tourists...

You need to address why it's traditional not to wear anything under them before somebody makes a bad joke. Or pun.

(He states any nationality can wear the kilt).
You got a point there, i should probably add to OP, although most clans are scottish there are plenty of generic tartans that have no affilation with clans and can be worn by anyone [editline]7th July 2011[/editline]
I hired my prom suit from the makers of these (etiquette hire), what a coincidence.
Who incidently went bust earlier this year (was a company we used to hire in certain tartans from). They were owned by Debenhams but some other kilt hire company has now bought them out

Still costs ludicrous amounts of money to rent kilts though.
Still costs ludicrous amounts of money to rent kilts though.
Indeed.. Kilts are ridiculously expensive.. It's just to get big fat wads of cash out of big fat waddling tourists..
Still costs ludicrous amounts of money to rent kilts though.
Only in England it seems. I have people coming in and telling me they pay around £130 to £150 to hire kilt outfits in england, at my work and about 20mins up the road it only costs £70. Costs roughly the same amount as suit hire at most places.
